I picked up this Burris mount for K/L Frame Revolvers. Used to mount without having it drill and tap. Got the mounting all figured out but can’t figure out what kind of scope ring goes on back. The Front I’d obvious. I’m sure someone here has experience with these. I have a similar Weaver top mount but it has grooves for Weaver rings. This one has me confused

The end with the hole has a ring with a circular dovetail on the bottom. The other end has a ring with a flat bottom and dovetail like grooves on the sides for the screws to fit in. The side screws are a coarse windage adjustment, then you can fine tune it in the scope. This is a fairly common setup, lots of places have the scope rings.

I figured that’s how it would work. The dovetail ring is no problem but I can’t find the ring for the rear with holes for the screws

Looks like Leupold quick detach ring mount. Pivots in the oval and locks into the other end.

The rear ring doesn't have holes, just small semi circular slots that the head of the screw catches on.
Maybe I’m overlooking something or becoming blind with old age but I can’t find a ring with slots you describe anywhere. Looked on websites of all the big boys and don’t see anything that looks like it will work. Also went to Burris website. Figured if anyone had rings that would work with their mount they would. Looks like this mount has been discontinued so may be a problem. Weaver had stopped making a similar mount as well.

Thanks for the heads up. I'm gathering there might be an "oops moment" in your past?

Thankfully, no, I never damaged a scope. I read this tip some time ago (can't remember exactly where) and used it when mounting one of the "twist in" dovetail scope mounts for the first time. Worked well for me so I figured I'd pass it along.

It took a good bit of force to get the dovetail fully "turned in" (at least with the mount I was using) so I was glad I was exerting that force on a dowel instead of my scope! Whether or not the scope would have been damaged is anybody's guess......but why take the chance?

You could probably use a length of 1" pipe in place of a dowel. Or even a broom stick!

Good luck,
Lou
