Just an observation here that may help some other noobie looking for a scope. Looked at a lot of scopes at GM today, they have a decent selection. My budget was $250.
I settled on the Bushnell Legend HD 3-9x40 for $199.
I am not a scope expert but I spent probably an hour in the store doing side by side comparissons looking at an outdoor sign that must have been 500 yards away. Dollar for dollar this Bushnell seemed to me to be the best overall value. It came very close to scopes priced much higher by Nikon and even Leopold.
The side parallax or focus adjustment was the clincher for me.
I got it mounted on my AR, shimmed the rear ring using black tape and using a laser boresight and the side of a barn about 75 yards away I got it base zeroed in in no time.
I am extremely happy with the overall value. Range testing to follow next weekend.
