Hello everyone. I just had a question about the M&P 15-22 before I go and pay for mine on Monday. Ive heard that newer models are coming with Flash Hiders. Does anyone know if this is true or not?

This is kind of off topic but can anyone tell me what the differences is between mil spec and commercial spec on magpul accessories are?

Thanks!

S&W is selling the 15-22 with flash hider. See S&W web site.

The Mil has a slightly smaller tube.

Hey don't make fun of mils tube.... he can't help it....:D:D:D:D

I got mine on 1/28/2010, with flash hider. I wasn't expecting it to come that way. I figured they had back stock on the old style, but to my surprise I was wrong.

Do you guys think that because I'm in California that I wont find one with a flash hider?

I purhased mine with the flash hider yesterday from my friend who runs a gun business out of his home. I took it to the range today and had 15-20 FTE out of 100 rounds. I was using Walmart Winchester bulk ammo. My 30 year old Ruger 10/22 had 2 FTE with the the same ammo and about 100 rounds through. I saw the Utube video on how to fix the problem, but I am sending it back to S&W. It did shoot nice when it wasn't jamming!!

Mil spec also refers to metal treatments like "Mil Spec Hard Anodization "

While "mil-spec" means many different things depending what part of the rifle you're looking at (finish treatments, alloy composition, tolerances etc), in this case what Magpul is referring to is the outside diameter of the receiver extension (buffer tube). There are two different diameters in common use. There's mil-spec and commercial size. The mil-spec diameter is slightly smaller than the commercial size. The M&P-15-22 has a mil-spec receiver extension.

magpul should just swap it out for you. tell them what happened and how you bought the wrong one and they'll take care of it from there.

I bought my 15-22 about a week ago. So far I've only made to the range once. I had one failure to feed on about the 7th round. No other problems in about 100 rounds of Federal 550 bulk. What an incredibly fun little gun.

Ya know... if you didn't know the difference you might have been happy with it. The CTR Com stock on a Mil tube will actually rattle a bit less than a lot of regular AR stocks. But glad you got things straight.
