Well, I went and let somebody talk me into getting rid of my Airweight J frame model 38 no dash Bodyguard and going to an all steel model 649.

In short...big mistake.

I mean, don't get me wrong...the 649 was an awesome shooter, but it was bear to tote in my front pocket! And I'm the kind of guy who carries his BUG more than he shoots it. But that's another six-pack. ;)

I guess I just got used to the lightness of the Airweight and the extra ounces of the 649 just made my pocket sag, I was uncomfortable with it, the gun's butt would peek out of the pocket occasionaly, I started walking sideways, yaddida, yaddida, yaddida.

So. I recently traded the 649 off and sold something else and I am now in the market for an Airweight J frame. :D

So far, I have my sights set on two different models - a 442 "Centennial" and a 438 "Bodyguard."

Now let's not turn this into a Centennial vs Bodyguard vs Chief's Special thread, all I wanna know is if the model 438 is offered WITHOUT the stupid lawyer lock. I know the 442 is now offered without the lock, how 'bout the humpback? Can you get them without the zit?

Thanks in advance.

The 642 is also a good choice, same as 442, except a stainless cyl & barrel

I do recommend the 442 if you're going to pocket carry in dark pants or shorts with slash pockets as the butt of the 642 is more easily seen if the pockets are not super deep (the lighter color is more obvious).

This is EXACTLY why I decided on the 442. I got made one time while totin' that 649.

642 442

If you plan on pocket carrying, do something to prevent the mim thumbpiece from rusting from pocket sweat. I use a DeSantis Superfly holster with the flap towards my leg, and I use CLP from MPRO7.

Yeah, if it gets too bad, I'll just buy a new one in stainless. ;)

Well, I had planned on ordering a 442 no lock from Bud's Gun Shop for $438 shipped, but a fellow longarm, in my neighboring town (about 15-20 miles away) sold me his gently used 642-1 no lock for 4 bills. :D
