Hello all, happy Labor Day! Go spend time with your families, and stop reading this post! ;)

I came across a used 15-22 at a local gun shop with a fair amount of accessories on it for a good price. I'm very much considering making the purchase in the next few days.

It's one of the early generation non-threaded barrel base models which is the only downside to the firearm in my opinion, as I have been falling in love with the 15-22 over the last month I've invisioned my build up having a threaded barrel. I guess I could have BeltFed thread the barrel for me.

The gun does have a 'DT' serial number but the owner has sent it back to S&W for the upgrades/updates and assures me it fires excellent. The owner is a long time firearm enthusiast with 20+ guns and bought this gun for his wife to shoot. She's ready to step up to a .223 to shoot along side his .223 and the 15-22 is up for sale.

He assures me the gun has had less than 1000 rounds through it. He said it's been to the range 4-5 times and only fired a couple mags each outing.

The gun has an NCstar Mark 3 w/ blue retical and built in laser, high end bipod, vert front grip, big tactical flashlight with pressure sensor, 4 magazines total and some other small tacti-fresh parts. The owner has all the documentation for each part that was added to the gun along with all of the boxes. He's a wealthy and very meticulous guy (with an english UK accent :D)- just the type of owner that I would want to purchase from. He said include a case as well.

My question is.. I've never purchased a pre owned firearm before, they've all been new. Is the serial number of this gun registered with the original owner and would I occur issues if/when the gun gets sent into to S&W at anytime through the rest of its life? When I purchase a firearm, I purchase it for life, I don't plan to ever resell this. I want to be sure I'll have all the perks of S&W's great customer support and warranty for MY entire ownership of the weapon.

Also, the retical in the NC scope is a bit off horizontal parallel and the lenses are sort of cloudy from the inside. I've read that the retical issue can happen with these scopes, but NC star will replace the scope under lifetime warranty without issue. Will I also run into issues with the NCstar warranty as I am not the original purchaser or owner of the scope? Do NCstar products come with mail-in registration cards or serial numbers?

Thanks for the help guys, I can't wait to join the 15-22 ownership club and make my contribution to the photo thread!!

It may be worth asking the seller if he's submitted any of the registration paperwork for the rifle and/or accessories... if not, then I would not worry about it... in fact, even if he has, I wouldn't worry about it. S&W is a top shelf company when it comes to customer service, and they have a reputation of standing behind their products with little or no hassles.

I'd say that if the price sounds good to you, then snag the gun and accessories. If you want to get the barrel threaded, you might want to pick up a barrel wrench, such as the one ShooBoy makes, so you can remove the barrel (rather than shipping the assembled upper).

Enjoy !! (and welcome to the family)
