A few weeks ago there was some commentary about having to have the local "Chief LEO" notify ATF that they were aware of the renewal/new application before the renewal would go through. Well, I just received my renewal seven days after sending in my renewal plus check using a traceable USPS envelope, and six days after leaving a copy with the local police chief. So the earlier commentary might have been "in error". Dave_n

The chief LEO's typically do nothing with a renewal notification unless they have a reason to try and stop it. Otherwise, they are just reviewed and filed, not sure if they get filed in a square or round cabinet though.

At least that's what my local sheriff told me when I asked him.
