Cabelas open; Dicks closed

Funny you post that. Because 3 months or so ago I went into the Dicks/Field & Stream in Lafayette LA and saw quite a few guns and even a few that looked somewhat like (gasp!!!) Modern Sporting Rifles! ;) Maybe because it has the Field & Stream tied to the name is why they still attempt to sell guns. Pricing of the guns wasn't very good either.

So if stores that sell guns (and ammunition) can stay open, does it follow that businesses that manufacture same are exempt from a mandatory shut down?

Can't figure out how they kept the doors open before the pandemic began. Lousy, lazy sales associates.

Can anyone think of a retail sporting goods chain that has stopped selling firearms and has still remained in business?

Eddie Bauer.

Abercombie & Finch (? spelling) might count but I've read that they drifted away from sporting goods into expensive clothing. The same is at least partially true of Eddie Bauer.

Through executive order Washington's Governor Inslee has ordered gun stores closed as non-essential. Several news radio commentators have noted that classifying guns as non-essential contradicts Home Land Security's ruling. One babble mouth on NPR gleefully said that with the courts virtually shut down no one can sue to get Governor Inslee's decision reversed.

Same thing here in Massachusetts (i.e., gun shops & shooting ranges deemed non-essential and forced to close). There are already a couple lawsuits against the governor on that decree, but it will be years before our courts ever get to it. :( So in other words, he wins by default. Pretty scary, actually.

The Governor of WA is a real stunad who closed down turkey hunting and fishing...
Plus if you make a profit in construction you can't work but Habitat for Humanity can keep up on there work......
Too bad that don't we have someone to run against him.

My favorite gun shop, with indoor range, is closed - but not by the decree of any Indiana politician. The owner did it out of concern for his own health and the health of his staff. I guess he decided that was more important than 6-weeks of profit. He didn’t ask me, but I support his decision 110%, and I commend him for it. :)

I always try not to be the Philadelphia lawyer and comment on statute that I know little or nothing about but I gather in Indiana our governor’s emergency powers specifically exclude restricting the acquisition, possession, and use of firearms. Apparently even in an emergency situation, broadly addressing firearms restrictions would require action of the legislature? (I’m not criticizing our governor. I just found that information, if accurate, “modestly” reassuring. Very modestly.)

My usual FFL did the same, which is why my latest auction acquisition is still stuck out of state. There is another place that is still open that I might use if it looks like this is going on much longer.

Cabela's in Kearney changed their hours to 9 to 6 for seniors and 10 to 6 for everybody else. they were limiting people to 50 in the store at one time.

AR's and SD shotguns were gone

Here in the Philippines firearms and ammo manufacturing are among a few businesses allowed to operate. We do both. However during the lockdown our workforce has been reduced from 1800 to about 700.

That’s a business that I wish would stay closed. Hopefully, Cabela’s or another business can give the employees a job! memtb

too bad I don't have any spare TP to wipe the tears from my eyes over Dicks closing... guess if they are tears of saddness or laughter... : )
