Cabela's!

Lucky you. The one I go to is 130 miles away. I always write a shopping list just like my wife does for Walmart. At least if you forget something it won't cost you $60.00 in gas to go back. Mine is having a Sale this Saturday. Usually their ammo prices at the sale are worth the trip.

Cabela's...Sportsmans Wahehouse...Bass Pro... EVERYTHING a guy could want...except for a good deal.

Sorry folks...can't imagine getting excited about LIST PRICES.

I will admit that with intelligent shopping one can occasionally snag a deal if you play the sales, coupons, etc.

Cabela's is a great place to hang out, eat a bison burger, and look at all the cool stuff.

A lot of it is overpriced, but every now and then you can score a great deal. Last year I scored a like-new Winchester 94AE in .25-35 for only $500.

We were supposed to be getting one in the Meadowlands Sports Complex, but thanks to Gov. Corslimes shady friends running the construction of the Xanadu complex way over budget it got scrapped.

10-4 on that. They are expensive. Typically, the sale prices on most their products are the same price as some competitors.

Our "local" Cabelas has been a disappointment. It stocks lots of guns, both new and used, but I've never noticed any particular bargains. They have lots of hunting garments, mostly cheap, low-end camping gear, mid-line footwear, lots of mediocre stuff, in short. Same is true of Bass Pro Shops here. Sportsmans Warehouse stocks fewer guns, but generally seems to have higher end products. I guess I like the smaller, specialty shops, like Sprague's, in Yuma, which has a huge inventory of quality stuff, guns, high-end optics, quality cutlery, etc. Cabela's and Bass Pro Shops both have very nicely displayed taxidermy, aquaria, etc., as part of their attractions. Cabelas' set designer has committed a serious faux pas in placing a certain reptile among montane ungulates two species which would almost certainly never cross paths with one another... But, it's entertainment...

If Walmart, the local gun store/pawn shop, flea market, yard sale, estate sale, or auction doesn't have it, I probably don't need it. When these folks build these high dollar stores they gotta pay for them somehow...and it won't be by giving stuff away.

My local Sportsman's Warehouse had much better prices than Gander Mtn or Cabela's. Unfortunately that store closed a couple of years ago.

We have a Cabela's close enough, about 50 miles away in Lacey. Anyway, two of the son-in-laws are hooked and one of them talked me into getting the Cabela's VISA card a couple of years ago. I use that card on everything and then pay off the balance every month. In doing so I get points building up which means dollars. Once you are a member you get discount coupons and ads with lower prices to which you can add your points. Works out well for trailcams, firearms, gun vaults, ammo etc.

Ours is about 25 min. away, and very expensive. The best deal that I got was a $60 Buck knife that was marked incorrectly at $40. I've bought little else there.

I don't know if they all have it, but ours has a huge display of mounted trophy bucks, stuffed exotic animals, gun displays in glass cases and more. I go a couple of times a year, mostly to see the sights.

Just heard today that we are getting a Cabela's at Polaris on the north side of Clumbus. Beats driving to the Wheeling Cabela's or to Bass pro at Cinci.

Confirmed in the Dispatch this morning. They're also expanding to Grandville, MI and Louisville, KY (both previously mentioned) Wichita, Kan.; Tulalip, Wash.; Charleston, W.Va.; Rogers, Ark.; Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; and Union Gap, Wash.

They will have to go some to beat the prices and variety on reloading components at The Fin (Ashland).

I do the same thing with my Cabelas Visa, and now they have a bonus points network where you can earn more % back, just earned $32.60 extra when I order tires for my truck from Discount Tire Direct. Am able to reload for virtually free with the Cabelas points, I rarely pay for anything at Cabelas. Extra bonus I have is my brother works near Cabelas and lives next to me, so I will have items shipped to store for free, and he just stops by and picks them up on his way home.

They announced today that we're getting a Cabela's in our town! WAAA-HOO!! They'll be about 5 miles from my house...I can feel the wallet getting lighter already!! :D

Hey Marvin,

I heard that last night as well on the news. I heard it is going to be 2.5x smaller than the Dundee store though. Still looking forward to check it out.

I got excited a few years ago when they built a Gander Mountain in town. But now you just go in and look and buy elsewhere. No such thing as a deal on guns, even the used ones are priced way out of line. When they have a newspaper flyer on sale items, most are sold out already. Even the sale ammo doesn't exist when you get there.
