Calling any chopper riders, should I buy this ???

My buddy has this chopper his sister won. Billet everything, 300 rear tire, springer front, TP Pro Series USA Made motor, right side drive tranny, Exile controls, BDL belt primary, etc.
Been sitting unridden since she won it three years ago. Tell me I should buy it ??? Shoo

Beautiful bike. If your riding style is 50 miles or less per trip then maybe. How is your back? Hardtail frames ride very rough and also with that thin seat hope you have some good padding on your butt. All I can tell ya is if a very good price go for it.
For what its worth had a friend buy a Big Dog chopper two years ago. He paid 21k for it and found out it hurt him to ride. Last I heard he had come down to 11k and had no bites. It was also a hardtail frame.--MP

I only rode a chopper once or twice. I do have 200,000 miles or more on full dress harleys and brit bikes, police style bikes. And at that, long ago.
Main thing is, what kind of rideing do you want to do? That motor gets a "0" for touring.
Might rate a "100" from the girls at A&W!
You wont go far without a bigger tank. Might be a good platform and place to start with to get what you want, whatever that is!
 
If the guys haven't convinced you up to this point....go borrow a hardtail and take it for a spin.

Yes, but consider that you'll be using up at least three mid-life crisis in the process. It's always a good idea to save them up for something really off the wall.

If on the other hand you are without spouse, then just do it.

Well, I am with spouse, so nowhere for her to ride. I'll be 50 next month, and my back has never been great. Not sure that sprocket/disc brake combo will haul this thing down from speed fast enough to avoid those left turning soccer moms in the minivans. The seat is sprung, but it also hits the battery. I just priced out these polished TP Pro motors, depending on size can range from about $8000-$9500 or so. I think the tranny is probably quite expensive too. Not to mention what you'd pay for those beautiful chromed billet American Eagle wheels and Avon Venom tires. Gotta think the springer front end has to cost at least 2-3 grand. Maybe buy it and part it out ??? I could probably buy the thing for $12,000 if I could come up with the cash. Hmmmmmmm............decisions, decisions.....
 
Back in 1971 I crashed a full dress harley. I didnt hurt the forks or frame. But It did a number on the tanks, fenders, bags and windsheld etc. I found a guy that had a similar dresser to mine, (about a 1969 or 70 full dresser). He wanted a chopper, and I bought everything I needed off his for $100! That was new tanks, fenders, sheild, bags, crash bars and all! Sure miss those days!
 
Here is that 69 harley before I crashed it and put on the red dresser parts. Secound picture is the same harley a few years later after I T-boned a woman who ran a stop sign. I was lucky on that one as it happened in front of a off duty chip! He had a fellow officer write her up, and they came to emergency together and gave me a copy of her ticket. Otherwise I would still be paying for it!

Hey shoo, my back hurts just looking at that thing! Imagine riding it and getting your spine compacted with every bump!! I may be a wimp, but that sure doesn't look fun to ride! Even at $12k, it might be tough to sell it and get your money back out of it. If it were me, I would PASS! Good luck with your decision.
 
As long as this is show and tell, here is another 1964 I paid $1,500 for. Daughter is now 30 years old.

One big thing about Harley's, they gotta be Harley's, and Titled as a Harley, or they don't hold their value. And yeah, its a small niche of people want those choppers, and they are tough to sell.

Partin it out is'nt a bad idea if you can get it for 12,000, I'd shoot for 8,000. You'd probably make money.

That looks like a baker right side drive tranny. bakerdrivetrain.com should say Baker somewhere if it is. BEST harley tranny you can get.

What everyone else said as to being a hardtail!+10 and if it has been sitting for 3 years that is a problem waiting to happen. If you are going to ride 2 up and want a comfortable but eye catcher go with a Harley Road King or Glide of one of the various offerings.. My last one was a 97 Ultra with 10 tons of chrome and the factory aftermarket Stage 2 Kit,after coming off back to back 1500 Goldwings(great bikes also) it did not let me down in the "power/roll on deprtment".. Which I thought it would as it was the last or next to he last year of the Evolution.. In the shop one time for something very minor.. If I had not had a stroke I would still be riding it..

That is a really nice looking bike. It won’t ride for crap. I think if you buy it right put a for sale sign on it and ride it up to the biker bar on a nice afternoon and people will look and with the help of spring fever and beer you should find someone who can’t live without it. If you don’t get someone interested Americaid at Lake George is coming right up.

After you make a good profit, go make a down payment on a Goldwing. This is my second one and I love it. I put over 100 miles on it today making deliveries for work and errands for the wife.
