I was wondering if anyone here knew if it would be possible to have Smith swap out the stainless cylinder of a 642 for a titanium one thus making it more comparable in weight to an airlite. I already know how unpleasant it is to shoot hot loads through my 340pd but it really doesn't bother me that much. Also, I noticed that spent hot casings seem to eject more smoothly out of my 340pd as opposed to my 642. Is this due to the physical properties of the different metals and how efficiently they dissipate heat or just something with the metallurgy. Thanks.

In a word: yes! I swapped the steel cylinder on my 637 for a Ti one I bought on clearance for $90. I used the original extractor star, so i didn't have to do any fitting. Maybe I got lucky, but it was truely a drop-in swap.
