Can Anyone ID the Stock Maker?

The set with the border at the bottom and smooth thumb rest are Sandersons or at least I believe them to be (large number 37 on the inside of each stock half).

The others came from a LGS today, they didn't know what they were for and I wasn't sure either. They fit the Officers Model target nicely. The wood, the screw and the general shape are like Sandersons but they don't have the border, do have a checkered thumb rest and perhaps most telling, have no number on the inside of the stock halves.

I suppose Herretts are a possibility. Anyone know or want to make a guess?

In the 1st picture, is the set of grips on the bottom gun the same as in the other pictures? From that 1st picture, I'd say they are both Sandersons. From the other pictures, it appears as though the right panel was reshaped and then crudely recheckered (original checkering still visible at the bottom of the grip). I would say whoever recheckered that piece also did the thumbrest. I will say that I've never seen a set of Sanderson grips that had the right panel contoured at the top like those are. I have a set of grips very similar (uncheckered), and have seen some others - I don't think they've ever been definitively identified. They are often seen with finger grooves IIRC.

Yes, same grip. I don't know that they have been recheckered, but perhaps. There is a little swell at the bottom of the grip which changes the contour a bit which may account for some of the apparent variation in the checkering. The checkering is certainly smaller and more uniform at the bottom than it is higher up. I would think Sandersons too but I don't know that I've seen any of his without the large numbers stamped on the insides. Thanks for your assessment.

A lack of numbers doesn't immediately rule out Sanderson. That set was definitely checkered by two different people. The person that did the left panel and lower right panel would never have let something as rough as the rest of it out the door. IMHO there is no question that the right panel has been altered from its original state.

Agree, but why isn't obvious. None of the checkering shows much wear so I wouldn't think that right panel would have had any either. Perhaps some damage though that isn't obvious now. Have you seen others by Sanderson with the checkered thumb rest? Thanks.

When you look at the backstrap of the grips in question you can see the right side has a different lines per inch.

I see these type grips a good bit on a common sale sight. They most always call them Sanderson and many do share the same Sanderson type screw.

I think these likely are but have always wondered myself when I see this type checking to the very bottom and a flat edged thumbrest .

I'm no expert, but I, too, would guess Sandersons. In any event, very nice grips.
