Just picked up an M&P 2.0 compact 9mm, but it came with a safety. I have checked everywhere, and the only place that has the frame plugs in stock is some seller on eBay trying to sell them for $19. Will there be any adverse affects if I run it without the safety or plugs while I wait for them?

I don’t believe they affect function. They are only cosmetic.
Have you tried S&W customer service/parts?

I called S&W and they sent it to me for free.

The factory sometimes makes promises that it can't keep. I am still waiting for the right side plug for an M&P .45 that I have-not owned for five years. Suggest you pay the $19 and welcome.

It's a macho thing.

"We don' need no steekin' safeties"

You're wrong, bud. It's no more a "macho thing" than if I were to say your dependence on a safety is a wuss's thing.

Yes. Yes you can.

I've never been able to grasp the antagonism toward safeties. Don't like it, don't use it but remove it???

Can't believe that there is never a situation where you'd like to have a functional safety.

Each to his/her own. Don

I kept activating the safety on my 2.0 FDE 5 inch, so it went away. Smith sent the plugs in a few days.

During LEO training R/O requires safey go on when moving on course if gun has one

Easier ...faster to have a firearm with no safety .

Many times safety got bumped on and there was that pause when trying to figure out failure to fire...

When my life is on the line. .....I forgo a safety equipped gun.

The finger off of the trigger will always work towards a totally safe firearm.

Until somebody puts their finger on the trigger without realizing it. I see you served in the army. Every issued weapon the military uses has a safety.

Is there a way to just plug the right side safety lever and leave the left on there?

Absolutely.

Additionally, I don't understand why those folks can fail to train themselves when drawing their M&P 2.0, to sweep their thumb across/down the safety switching it off. Their thumb should automatically do that as they draw. IMO, it should be just like training yourself to keeping your finger out/off of the trigger until you are ready to fire. Just my 2-cents...

Yes. The safety issue is so overblown. Think about how many things we do everyday they require no conscious thought. Do we forget to step on the brake before shifting into gear? Do those who drive a manual transmission forget to step on the clutch before shifting?

Before Glock came along, most semi autos had safeties. They were carried daily by millions. We’re they such a liability then? Coincidentally, the term “Glock Leg” didn’t exist then, either. Not that some people didn’t screw up with a gun with a safety. Just that is wasn’t nearly as likely.

There’s a whole generation who have been brought up to think they’re a liability. They’re not. And those same robots proudly repeat the dumb mantra “keep your booger hook off the bang switch”.

If you’re so confident that your training will keep your finger off the trigger until you want to fire, why wouldn’t you be as confident that you will sweep the safety off?

Real thread drift here. Separate topic?
