Started to think I need me a Shield 9, and got to thinking about the .40.

I know I can get a Glock .40 and swap in a 9mm barrel & mags and I have myself a functioning 9mm.

Are the Shields identical frames and slides which can go from .40 to 9mm and if so, can someone recommend a barrel known to work?

Yes they are. But at the moment you cannot get a factory barrel. To my knowledge there aren't any aftermarket companies making a conversion barrel for the shield....yet. There are conversion barrels for the compact and FS M&P pistols.

Well, that kind of kills that idea, huh?

Just get the Glock, the shield is junk.

Have plenty of Glocks. Glock however does not have a single stack, and the G42 is a joke due to its size vs. caliber ratio.

If you think the Shield is junk, you're gonna have to back it up as I have read very few bad comments (forget the recall as its has been addressed)

Wth

Quite a helpful and insightful post.
Well, Girls1 I worked on your M&P pistols because they fall apart due to poor maintenance and I won't loan any of my Glocks. I have a Gen 1 model 17 that has over 350k rounds thru it and it is still going! Try this with your junk M&P, Girls!

Just like everything you posted, your comments have no value to the op. Show proof of your claims. Trying to insult the good members of this great forum gets you nowhere.

Methinks "Gunfancier" should be struck by the ban hammer, both for spewing **** he can't or won't back up, and for insulting both this forum and its members.

You think M&P's are junk, yet here you are hanging around in the M&P page of a Smith & Wesson forum.
You have posted several words, yet said very little.

I'll give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that you are early in your "Internet career" and don't know how to behave, or that you are just used to the attitude of some other gun forums (which shall remain nameless) and don't know how to behave.
Either way, you're on the wrong track.

I've seen plenty of attitudes and language on some of the other forums, and not much seems off-limits on those forums.

This is not one of those forums.

We generally don't descend into name-calling and/or "I'm right/smarter/more experienced/etc.
Read the rules & terms of service. That behavior isn't wanted or welcome here, has no real use or purpose, and is just a disruption.

Maybe you'll see this post and realize that we all congregate here to share our love, knowledge, and experience with and of Smith & Wesson products - hence the name of this forum. ;)

If you have valuable experience and/or information, it is welcome.
If you have an anecdote or a joke, head over to the lounge - we love that stuff here.
If you have a genuine complaint or malfunction with an S&W product, we'd like to hear it.

We don't want or need rude posts, or posts that just bad mouth S&W in general, or personal attacks like the one you posted above.

If you're not interested in these things, maybe this isn't the forum for you. ;)

Been shooting for over 45 years...many makes and model are not available in Massachusetts. However, i have shot as many guns as i can lay my hands on. All i can say is.... i too love my shield. It makes me look better than i am. I've had a few issues lately with steel ammo, but you get what you pay for.

hmmm...you must have a lot of time and money on your hands. for a gun made in circa 1987, that would be 250 rounds a week for 27 years. You need a vacation.
