I posted another firearm on thsi forum and received a very good response. I Don't believe this is an SW but thought maybe someone could put me on the right track. No markings that I can see other then "Amercian Bull Dog". Made a few measurements and they are shown below in the pictures. I was told by a dealer that it may be and Iver Johnson?? I have a few books and dont see this frame/design being listed. Any help is appreciated and welcome. How about that bull dog or maybe a horse on the grip? Also it looks as that is some type of rivit holding the grips on..any idea?

James

Yes, the gun is an American Bull Dog model made by Iver Johnson, circa 1880s. The grips are crude home made replacments. The serial number will be on the grip frame under the left grip. The gun has no value, except maybe for some parts, as it is in very poor condition. It was cheaply made in the black powder cartridge era and would definately be unsafe to shoot with modern ammo. For details on this gun, get the book " Iver Johnson Arms & Cycle WorksHandguns 1871-1978" by W. E. Goforth.

I have one of these also in the same caliber. Go to thefirearmsforum.com
Mr. Goforth is a forum member and very helpful with anything related to
Iver Johnsons and H&Rs. You will see my thread there on my .44 bulldog with his input.

By the way, if you ever decide you want to part that revolver out please let me know.
I could use some of those parts for mine as some of my parts aren't original and don't
quite fit right. Thanks!

If the pistol functions properly I would not completely write it off. THe 44 caliber versions are not that common.
