Being that it is the first week of hurricane season I have been taking stock of my basic survival supplies. A cousin of mine told me how much he likes Wolf Brand Chili "Lean Beef" variety. So I decided to check it out. It cost about $3 per can where the lesser levels of Wolf Brand Chili sell for $1.50 to $2 per can.

As canned chili goes it is quite good. The calorie count and fat levels are much lower than their other varieties. Sodium is lower than most canned chili, but is still high. It is not spicy hot; I tossed in a few pickled jalapeno slices to add some zing and vegetables. Served up with a tortilla it made a decent lunch.

I'm going to pick up a couple more cans to have on hand, just in case. I need more bottled water, and I think I'll get some canned orange juice. I remember wanting juice during the aftermath of Hurricane Ike. It has been ten years since Ike and a year since Harvey.

I’m not a food snob, but there isn’t a canned chili worth eating.

When the apocalypse arrives, I’ll eat my last can of Vienna sausages and put a bullet thru my head.

I tried the stagg and thought it was okay at first...but it has a sweetness tha started to disgust me.

I just make a couple pounds of chili with the Williams seasoning pack and freeze it in pint containers.

You might try Skyline chili served over pasta and under cheese and (optional) onions and/or beans (Cincinnati Chili). Oyster crackers are also commonly included. A taste worth acquiring. There is a Cincinnati chili parlor on every other corner in Cincinnati.

...just had some Hormel Chili no beans on a couple of hot dogs with chips and salsa on the side...

...I might pay for it later...

Hormel dosed with Tabasco Green has been my standby for the last four years. Prior to that I was all Wolf Brand, but it seemed like Wolf Brand had changed over the years. The Lean Beef variety seems like what I remember Wolf Brand used to be.

After reading these posts I think there are some on this forum that just would not eat chili from a can and that's okay. Like has been mentioned, chili is not hard to make given a little time. My wife makes excellent chili so there's been no need for me to make it anymore.
We always keep several cans of Wolf Brand Chili in the pantry and in the camper and use the regular Wolf Brand Chili for hot dogs and such and also like the Wolf Brand Lean Beef Chili when we're splurging. I grew up on Potted Meat, Potted Ham, Vienna Sausage, and Wolf Brand Chili.
To each his own I guess.

...the real question is...

...what kind of beer goes good with it...
