I had another thread on here about a Canon safe that was erroneously delivered to cover the warranty on a gun vault pistol safe that stopped working. It’s a 60 gun 60 minute fire safe sold in Tractor Supply for $999.99. I called the warranty company and was completely honest about the error. They thanked me and said they would be in touch to arrange for shipping back to them. It’s nearly two weeks since then and no word. I started looking at some reviews on them in YouTube. Mostly decent. Cant expect Fort Knox quality for a $1000 safe, but it’s surely an upgrade to the Stack On one I currently have. The most common negative review deals with the electronic lock failing. I’m not a big fan of electronic locks. The electronic lock failing in the gun vault is what started all this. In a review I watched, one owner called them about a dent in the safe after it was delivered and their lifetime warranty sent him a new one, no charge. They told him to keep the dented one. Maybe it’s not worth the cost to pay the movers? I know they can still take it back and it’s fine if they do. I’m gonna give it another month and then do with it as I want to. I have an email from them regarding the mistake so I’m covered.

So it seems now is the time to upgrade. My StackOn is in my daughter’s closet because that room was my office before she was born. She now wants full use of her closet and I don’t blame her.

Here’s the issue: the new safe will be moved to my new office/man cave, but there’s no closet in there. It will be in the left corner which is helpful in preventing prying attacks on the door. It will be on the same side of the wall as the windows so you really can’t see the safe from the lawn unless you pressed your face against the window and peered left. I have alarms and cameras in and around my house.

So I’m all for a free safe, but the electronic lock bugs me. I have read reviews with owners having thousands of dollars of guns locked into the safe, requiring a visit from a gunsmith who now knows you have thousands of dollars of guns and where they are.

Anybody here have any real experience with these safes? I know I can sell the free one for like $600 I’m sure to offset the cost of a better Fort Knox?

Has the electronic pad changed to old style tumbler on my new safe. Local safe/ lock company delivered safe , tech changed tumbler and set combination. They also will move safe when I move again, IIRC $125.00 which sure beats any movers knowing what you have. Might check around your area for safe dealer.

I have a Canon 48 capacity safe. It’s not the best but I got it at a great price. It’s tucked up in a hidden area out of sight and mind.

It has an electronic lock, that sort of warns you when it will fail, at least mine did. Mine got more difficult to open as time went by, even with a new battery, I needed to enter the code many times to get that “click”.

I called Canon, and without a word they sent me a new lock. Now that one, after two years, has started to act up somewhat, requiring the code to be reentered.
I think I may just have a locksmith put in a mechanical lock.

I too have an alarm, outside cameras, and a retired DC homicide detective nextdoor, who never goes out.

Our resident safe expert, Kanewpaddle, hates electronic locks.

Cannon has a good reputation with the people I know. Disclaimer I have a Fort Knox!

Be advised as you mention a big box (Tractor Supply) many times those safes are not the same as what is available at other safe sellers. You got to check the specs between the different outfits, try the safe manufactures web site!

Same thing goes for many other items, even if it has almost the same part number the bigger boxes buy so much they get things made to their specs. Power equipment is a big one!

I know I've told this story before , but here goes ... In 2016 we had a flood of biblical proportion . 48 inches of water in my house . One of the few things I was able to do before the water came up was to empty my Cannon safe . Everything went into the attic temporarily .
After the water went down I moved the safe out into the garage . I contacted Cannon warranty people and they said to send them some pics making sure to get the nameplate on the back of the unit . After a week or so they said that they would ship me a new safe but it might take a few weeks due to the high volume of claims . About a month later a big truck stopped in front of my house and unloaded a new Cannon safe that was about twice the size of the old one . Actually it was too big but I traded with my buddy that had one like I lost so it worked out great .

Hmmmmmmm . . . . .
A retired DC detective next door to a retired NYC firefighter.
Who else lives in that neighborhood?
What’s going on up thar in Nawth Ca’lina?
;)

I bought mine over a year ago , it's a good sized one , like 40-50 guns . Costco has them on sale once - twice a year , $600 . For that price , I'm extremely happy . I was looking at the lading bill , looking for a weight which turned out to be almost 600 pounds .

Something wild here . While looking for the weight I found how much it cost them to get it to me .It came from California , and I live in CenFl . Take a guess on what it cost ? It cost them almost $600 . I don't know how they do it , but I'm not complaining .
