Does anyone recall the TV show from the 1950's about Capt. Gallant of the French Foreign Legion, played by Buster Crabbe?

Do you remember his revolver? Model d'Ordnance 1892 8mm, or S&W M&P or Victory Model? Both, in different episodes?

And the French in WWI bought M&P copies from Spain chambered for the 8mm. Don't know if any remained in service much beyond WW I. They were subs for the M-1892, which was in short supply when WWI broke out on a huge scale. Many Ruby .32 autos were also bought from Spain.

I was a kid then (watching the show; not in WWI) but already could recognize most major guns. But memory may have faded...

I think the soldiers had MAS-36 bolt action 7.5's? They were stationed in Algeria or French Morocco. ??

Just watched part of one on youtube. Says in the opening credits they are in Morocco.

According to the cover of this video-tape box, it looks to me to be a Colt.

Yeah, that's a Colt on the box cover. But in the episodes, he wore a holster that took about a four-inch barrel, not that much longer gun.

It does, however, remind me of the guns carried by Jon Hall and Ray Montgomery as Ramar of the jungle and his pal.
I think they had Official Police or New Service/M-1917 Colts.

Ramar had a rifle that was either a Mannlicher-Schoenauer carbine or a Mauser-actioned one with similar stutzen stock.

Watch that Capt. Gallant episode, then you can select one of several Ramar of the Jungle episodes . Watched two, and his rifle had a round bolt. Probably some sporterized M-'98. His pal had something similar with what may have been an early Fajen stock or a Bishop?
I couldn't tell if the revolvers were New Service or OP's, but they had Colt medallions at the top of the stocks. I'm leaning toward Official Police with six-inch barrels.
