A car vending machine is up and running in Oklahoma City. When I read about it I thought it was a joke. I'm probably out of touch but I had never heard of such a thing. It seemed like a silly idea but after researching the company, Carvana, it appears that it may not be such a silly idea after all.

The all-glass tower stands eight stories high and holds 27 vehicles. Customers are able to purchase a vehicle online and then pick up the vehicle from the car vending machine the next day.

Yep this is in fact true. We live in an internet world. People do not want to go shopping anymore. I have not seen the “vending machine” yet but My wife saw a Carvana flat bed truck with what looked like a trade in on the back of it.

Had one here for months. Maybe since last year. It's just another blight on the landscape far as I'm concerned.

We have one of those here as well I just went by it the other day mainly out of curiosity.

To the best of my knowledge the cars sold by that company are all used or for the most part are used and when buying them its basically "as is" because they do not let you have a mechanic check it out or anything like that.

Im not sure what kind of warranties they offer if any but to me it just seems like a horrible idea to buy a car that you cant see and cant have checked out before hand.

It is a cool concept though, helps you avoid the car salesmen at the dealers.

As per the all-seeing Wiki, somebody is sure buying them. They had almost $2 billion in revenue last year. They offer a 7 day test drive/return policy.

"Carvana"...clever name.

I thought beer in Japanese vending machines was impressive.

I bought my current truck sight unseen.

I remember walking up to the first time when my daughter dropped me off to pick it up and I looked inside and said, "wow - it doesn't even have power windows". LMAO!!!!!!!!!

Silliest way to buy a used car. Buy it online, no test drive, no inspection by a mechanic you trust.

Well, I suppose you could rage against something you don't know anything about--this is a gun forum, after all. But Carvana and similar businesses have a 7-day money-back period. You're free to take the vehicle to your mechanic or whoever and have it checked out.

I don't know about silly. I sold two motorcycles that were bought online without the purchasers looking at the bikes in person. A Honda Gold Wing and a BMW R1200GS. Lot's of pictures sent with maintenance records and photo of clean title. Buyers wired the funds and had a shipper pick up the bikes. Not sure about cars, but happens a lot (or used to) with touring bikes.

Buying a car on your iphone in your bunny slippers!!!!!!!! Is this a great country or what?

I have purchased my last 3 vehicles form Carmax. Two of them I found online, put on a 7 day hold, and then purchased. I found one of them while on vacation, and bought it upon return. The world has changed. Who wants to have some sleezy used car salesman hover over them, and then have him take your offer to his manager, who of course rejects it and starts the whole negotiation process all over again.

I first discovered the joy of fixed price buying when we purchased three Saturns brand new, and I refuse to play the dealership games any more.

How many quarters or dollars does a buyer have to shove into the machine to buy that Mustang GT?
I believe Carvana advertises they will pick up your car if they buy yours and will deliver a car you buy from them.
Yeah I wonder what the return policy is on getting a car that is a lemon or doesn't meet buyers expectations?

If the price is cheap enough it will leave you with enough money for any repairs.
