Carry a 4"?

4" 329PD, everyday.

I use either the Sparks VM2 or Comptac CTAC for IWB, or the FIST #12 for OWB.

Button up Hawaiian or other shirt covers it up nicely.

(I've not used the CTAC but a week, before my VM2 arrived.....I'll sell if you're interested in IWB)

I carry various guns. Sometimes 4", usually a 5", and occasionally a 6" all IWB. I use various holsters. My mainstays are FIST kydex/leather hybrids.

I'm going to assume that you mean a revolver and not a Colt Commander or something of that size (which is a 4").

I carried a Model 58 IWB for a while. I used an old IWB suede clip on S&W branded holster that I paid 10 bucks for off Ebay. It was meant for a 4" K frame but fit the 58 fine until I accidentally washed it.

Some years before that, I needed an expendable carry gun (one that I didn't care about wear and tear or really care about in general) so I carried a worn 15-2 4" IWB. I wrapped rubber bands around the grips. Worked okay, not great. Too many sharp edges really.

These days I will sometimes carry a 4" 629. I use an old Safety Speed Askins type (google it) OWB thumb break meant for a 5" N frame. I was going to cut it down, but I'm getting a 5" 27-2 on a trade back (long story, but I always do backsies with friends if they want to), so I'll leave it as is. Great holster, a shame the company is out of business.

I carry either a 4in. K or L in an ElPaso high slide. It conceals well and is comfortable.

How far out the bottom of that High Slide does the 4" barrel on the K frame protrude? I've emailed El Paso twice in the last month asking that question (so I can probably order one) and they have yet to respond. Thanks for any info and pardon the slight thread drift.

wd5exl, approx. 1- 3/4 in. The best feature is that the cylinder rides high above your belt line so even tho the barrel shows, it really isn't noticed. Also, the holster works even better with the 3in. barreled revolvers and can be used for longer barreled as well.

I used to carry a 4" model 65, and still regularly carry a 3" 1911-style or even a 5" 1911-style. To me, the key is to have a high-ride holster that is held tightly against the body, and carry it just where your side and your back meet (just in front of the kidney). Never had any problems concealing it.

What Smith Revolver Cop describes above works well for me. I do not carry regularily but, when I do it is either S&W M60 with 5 inch barrel or Swedish Nagant with 4,5 inch barrel. Both have rather large grip frames and grips (as regards concealed carry).

Biggest problem is that neither gun is especially fast to draw from "strong side". However, both are securely held, even without retention straps and during very active conditions, such as backcountry skiing, horseback riding, field work. Both guns are light enough that I hardly notice them.

I've been known to occasionally carry my 629 Mountain Gun in a Galco Silouhette holster. It's an open muzzle slide style holster and the last 1" or so of the barrel is exposed. It also rides high with the front edge of the cylinder even with the top of the belt. I originally got the holster as a range holster since the open design accomodates multiple barrel lengths. It does carry very high and almost feels like the butt of the gun is in my armpit. It also requires a very loose fitting shirt to hide.

Thanks for the info. My K frame is a 3" so I'll probably order the high slide from El Paso Saddlery. I have sometimes carried my 629 Mt. Gun in the "Crosshair" from El Paso and with a coat or untucked shirt it is amazing how well it conceals.

I carry mines everyday in a BLACKHAWK OWB holster most of the times with out a problem. When I were a T-shirt that don't come down to my pockets, I were my IWB holster.

I carry a Model 13 or 19 pretty regularly in an El Paso Saddlery Tortilla.

I've carried a three inch 13 IWB and in a Don Hume JIT belt slide extensively over the past year. I just ordered one of the four inch heavy barrel Model 10's that they are discussing over in the Lounge. It's a police and security company turn in, but it'll be perfect for the brand new DeSantis pancake with thumb break thats in my holster drawer right now. This is a perfect case of buying a gun to fit a holster that I had, but at $140.00 shipped for the gun, how can I go wrong? Be interesting to see if there is any difference in the square butt vs. the round on the 13, and the extra barrel length on the 10 vs. the 13.

Sometimes I carry a 4" 686 in a 5.11 Tactical T shirt. It is a little big for the shirt, but it works.
