Here in GA we can apply for a Carry Permit.
On one hand, I want to get on. On the other had, it's sending a red flair to the government of what I have if **** hits the fan.
Now that the NSA monitors everything, I suspect that they already know what I have. So I might as well go and get a carry permit.

BTW, here in Ga I can legally have a gun in the car, place of work and in my home with out a permit.

Still on the fence.

Get the license (I don't like the term "permit").

Don't worry about who knows what. Think instead about protecting yourself in daily life. Feces in the fan blades is vastly more likely in small encounters on the street than on a national scale.

I wouldn't advise you on this but the fact that the state knows I have a carry permit, therefore most likely a gun, is not high on my list of concerns. If stuff ever hit the fan, there's a bunch of us and anyone knows there's probably as many people with guns and no permits as there is with guns with them.

One advantage of having a permit would be if you travel to a state than does require one for car carrying. Carrying a loaded gun in your car in TN is illegal unless you have a permit.

P.S. With respect to shouldazagged, think license where you see permit.

^^^^ I agree ^^^ Cops are way to heavy to carry especially with all of their gear.

I suggest, get the license to carry. Whether you carry or not at this time, at least you have it. When and if you decide to carry, you have the license. Be prepared. Should for whatever reason you decide to carry, you are ready to go. When the boat is sinking, it's to late to go buy a life jacket.

Get the license IMO.

If we get to SHTF condition 1 with gun confiscation etc. I doubt not having the permit (yeah I agree license is better but that's what it's called in Ky ) will keep the government from your door. You may not be first but they'll knock IMO, and by having the permit you are able to legally protect yourself and your family. Versus the risk/reward of some future action I think having the permit is worth it.

Of course nothing keeps you from burying some extra guns somewhere else that you don't hand over. I'd rather deal with that kind of scenario by the ubiquitous "it got lost" or burying some guns under the shed than denying myself the ability to carry and be able to defend myself.

I'm no fan of government but we're still more likely to be harmed by a criminal than experience gun confiscation. If we're talking about just gun hassling, like the case in Maryland of a guy being harassed b/c he had a Florida permit, I encourage us to stand up to that in court and fight for our rights, not let those people win by not getting a permit. that's just what they want us to do and we need to stand up to that intimidation.

I don't understand how anyone expects the same government who can't handle delivering hot chow and mail to the field in peace time is going to coordinate confiscating 300 million guns all at once.

I think we'll have plenty of time to react

I cannot speak of GA as I don't live there. But I think your a bit paranoid.
Here in the county I live in, southern Ohio, the CC license is issued by the local sheriff, his records are never transferred to the federal government at all time, unless of course you commit a federal crime, which in that case you have more to worry about than your concealed carry permit information. If, as you say, the $$it hit the fan, again, why are you worried, you and the government officials both local and federal have more to worry about than if you have a gun.
Basically, the federal government could care less if you have a gun, and the local boys are counting on guys like you to help keep the streets safe, its obvious the guys paid to do it, cant get it done.

All good points. I'll do it. I down loaded the application and will Get'r done.

you will be able to carry in florida and having a permit also protects u if you have a concealed blade or brass knockels . lets say you are a fisherman and have a filet knife in your tackle box that is long and over the legal limit . because it is in your tackle box it could be said it is concealed while walking to your favorit fishin spot . Having a permit is a great thing protects you for many reasons also shows that you went through a long process and back ground check

I'd like to see a cite to any law that allows the carrying of brass knuckles with a Concealed Weapons Permit.

Ask and ye shall receive. :D

with a Ky concealed carry permit you can carry any defined "deadly weapon" concealed. It's actually called a "Concealed Carry Deadly Weapons Permit". These include:

Any weapon from which a shot, readily capable of producing death or serious physical injury, may be discharged.
Any knife other than an ordinary pocket knife or hunting knife.
Billy, nightstick, or club.
Blackjack or slapjack.
Nunchaku karate sticks.
Shiriken or death star.
Artificial knuckles made from plastic, or other similar hard material.

Have no idea about Florida, but it wouldn't shock me since I know Ky allows it. that also covers stilettos or switchblade knives. makes sense, if you can legally carry a gun why not a switchblade?

Kentucky is a pretty liberal state when it comes to weapons. Ironic since we banned fireworks 30 years ago. But ninja stars are fine. lol.

Can I first just say how jealous I am of your location? I love Key West, have stayed on Largo and my sis in law got married on Islamorada. I love the keys.

Anyway, great point. In Ky it opens you up to other weapons, but also freedom of placement of a firearm in your vehicle. Without a permit you can keep a loaded gun in any factory installed compartment like a glove box, but if it were under your seat for example that would be illegal without the permit.

Ky's even exempts you from NICS background checks on FFL purchases. It's a convenient sucker to have.

Wow, in Colorado brass knuckles are taboo even if they're on a belt buckle

Good Piont! I have a Cold Steel Espada folding knife with a 7.5" blade. This thing is freaking awesome. Hit the hyper link and scrolls down to play the video. I also have a 5.5" knife in the truck just in case I need to cut the seat belt off due to an accident.

I grew up in Miami. Spent a summer or 2 in Key West. I ended up buying a house in Homestead Fla. Huricane Andrew destroyed it. I rebuilt but later moved to ATL Ga.
The Southern Cruisers is having thier annual thing in KY. Hmm... Maybe I can take a detour.

Nothing has surprised me more, and continues to surprise me, as I got back into guns than the variation in state laws on everything related to them. Coming from a very pro-gun state I'm mostly shocked by the restrictions out there, but even the normal variations blow my mind at times. I'm constantly running across some requirement in a state I read about on here or some other board and I had no idea it existed.

I didn't know that stuff was legal to carry in Ky with the permit till I took the class years back.
