planning to start running to get in better shape.
I live in town and some areas aren't the best. what would you all suggest to use to carry while running?
I checked out the Pistol Wear holsters and they look pretty good.
anyone have any other opinions?

COUPLE CHOICES

Fanny pack? I used to use one w/a small STAR semi-auto. Efficient 'cause it also held my car keys, & ID, as well as some cash.

A friend of mine who is a major walker (4-8 mi. per day) carries a Ruger LCR in an ankle holster when wearing long pants or in his pocket w/shorts on.

A guy I used to work with is a serious runner. He carries using an elastic belly band rig (don't know the name). Says it works best for him as there is no holster / fanny pack bouncing around when he runs.

It's from Australia and touts comfort for Air Marshalls. I just can't think of the name right now. I'll get back to you...

I'm not sure how secure it would be for running but it is light and comfortable and doesn't hook onto your clothes. It's inexpensive but well made from very good materials. (Mil type Velcro and super duper elastic) It would be great for wearing a suit, like at church because it doesn't cramp or hurt. It just rides around your waist with a strap over your shoulder.

Regardless of the sneers and jeers and giggles, when I used to run I wore an Uncle Mike's fanny pack, and if I ride my bike I still use it. It is in front of my body, extremely accessible and easy to use, and not in the way of the exercise nor is it moving about.

I also use an Uncle Mike's fanny pack with my 642. I do have to snug the belt down quite a bit, though, to keep it from bouncing too much. But not enough to make it uncomfortable.

I use an Activeprogear conceal jogging holster. I got the large size. It fits my FNS40 perfectly. The Velcro starts popping with my Five-seveN, Governor or P320 though.

It will also accommodate your phone and maybe your keys. I got it from Amazon. I'd provide the link but I think it's a no-no.

None other than Ed Lovette CIA paramilitary trainer recommends the uncle mikes belt pack.

Jim Cirillo used to carry his Glock 20 in a Wilderness Safepacker or somesuch. By then of course he was an old man with nosehair.....

I have both versions. Didn't like it. Grip or cylinder poked out. Usually worn under armpit. If you have a small flat semi-auto it could work.

I have some REI shorts that have belt loops in them, so my little .38 goes in a holster on the belt. I start out concealed but tuck my shirt behind the gun once I get going.

Too old and tired to run for fun. I just carry like I always do.

Did run the other day when a panic alarm went off in the City Council Reception Area. Up 4 flights of stairs and fifty yards of hallway in well under a minute wearing body armor and a loaded duty belt. Someone's chair arm hit the button. Took a few minutes of heavy breathing (not the good kind) before I could reset the alarm.

You didn't mention in which city you live. The carry alternatives above sound good, but if it is a truly dangerous area your best carry option may be a fitness club membership card.

Hill People Gear make kit bag chest holsters that won't bounce around.

I have one of these and I really like it but in an urban area with lots of corrupt butt hurts and paranoids it's probably not the best. If you live in an area without corrupt butt hurts and paranoids or there aren't a lot of stringent no go zones according to the law this would be a great solution when exercising. Plenty of room I carry the Springfield range officer compact with extra mags in this bag.

I'm nowhere near as high tech as others here. I run a few miles each day, and carry a Kel-Tec .380 in a cheap Uncle Mike's IWB nylon holster. I replace it every few years. The sweat tuns the nylon into a tougher material after awhile!

Light is good when you're running...

O.k., since someone else provided a link, so will I:

Swift access and extra storage.

My knees are worn out, so I can't run anymore, but I do a lot of hiking and walking. I try to get in at least 3 miles a day. I usually carry a j-frame in a DeSantis pocket holster. For trail hikes, I pack a Smith 10 snubbie on my hip. I do have the Belly Band, and it's a great holster, holds your firearm firmly in place, but my only complaint is that it makes me feel like I'm wearing a corset or girdle.

I started jogging a few months ago and bought a Trumpcard from Pistol Wear. It's very comfortable and conceals well. If you can find a Cabela's they have been putting them on the shelves and you can see which one fits the gun you want to carry best. I found that the way they size their different holsters and list what guns they are for online was not very accurate.
