I recently fired my brand new Winchester Model 1873 chambered in 38/357. The very first shot separated the cartridge case cleanly in half. The bullet exited cleanly, but the top half of the cartridge is stuck in the chamber. I was able to eject the bottom half. I have already tried the obvious solutions ie ramrod, etc. Any suggestions? Bend a 45 cleaning brush into an "L" , cram in into the chamber and pull it back out. It should pull the broken brass out with it.

First, let me say I have never had this problem, so I am as much in the dark as you are about how to get that portion of the case out of the chamber. However, doing a bit of research, I found this interesting video from a guy who had a similar problem and how he fixed it. It may be tougher to use this method on a Winchester lever action.

Thanks for the tip
