They are fun and can be accurate. Here is a 1'' @75yds target shot from my model 64(made in 1954)with an Accurate mould bullet designed by Ed Harris with 11.0gr 2400.Bullet comes out at 161gr from range scrap and is left unsized and lubed with LLA.Quick to cast and easy to load.No filler.
I haven't chronoed it yet but I guess it is doing in the 1100 to 1200fps.
I love it when a plan comes together(dixit a famous SOF of the '80s).

I used to shoot cast bullets exclusively in a T/C Contender with 10" 30-30 barrel. Various Lyman gas check types in the 150-190gr range, as well as the RCBS 30-165 Silhouette type were all fantastic.
As these were all somewhat reduced loads, I used a Redding neck size die.
Favorite powders were SR4759 (14 grs), RL-7, and IMR 4198.

30-30 was easy to load and cast for, and was great for IHMSA silhouette.

I and my sister shot nothing but cast in our Marlin 30-30 's . I use the Lyman 311041 mold . It's 173 gr gas checked . Marlins , with the micro groove rifling need larger size bullets instead of the std .308 . I use 25grs of 3031 powder for about 1700 fps . They shoot very very accurately . I tried several different powders but settled on 3031 . Regards, Paul

The trick is to slug your barrel prior to getting a bullet mold. Then size your bullets .002 over bore diameter. Finn model 27 made in 1935 in 7.62x54r.Problem with Winchesters is they have no throat. The rifling basically starts at the chamber mouth. So if you try to seat the bullets out they hit the rifling and so won't chamber. Frank

Most people don't know how hard it is to get a 30x30 to work with lead bullets at a distance.

Both my Winchester 94 and my Contender do well with cast bullets. The Cast Bullet Association sponsors various formal and informal competitions. Here's a picture of my 200 yard coyote-shoot target. This was shot with my Contender rifle, using a 210 grain bullet, seated position, cross-stick rest. We were trying to simulate shooting in a hunting situation. As you can see, I peppered that beast.

Left unsized,my bullet comes out at .311.I've tried bullets sized from .308 all the way up to .311.I've tried them in my 3 Winchesters(trapper, carbine and M64 so 16'' bbl,20'' and 24'').
.308:none shot good
.309:bullets with GC showed improvement but nothing great.
.310:good performance in all 3 rifles
.311:very good to excellent.I'll stop there!
