Caution! Pocket Carry

I'm aware of the risk of carrying in an open top holster in the field, but never really thought about it when using a pocket holster. I finished up some tree trimming this morning and discovered this afterward. Be sure to check your gun often!

Looks OK to me, cylinder rotation would have ejected the bark.
Now if had been on the other side.

Yep... I took out my trusty ol' Centennial and beat that danged ol' tree into submission.

That was part of my shock when I found this. I was wearing 501 Levis. Not exactly baggy pants with big pockets. That hunk of bark was stuck in there pretty good. Had to open the cylinder to get it out.

I had a small specie of mud dauber (dirt dauber) fill the first inch of bore in a spring air rifle I kept hanging over the people door into my garage. It completely rusted the riflings out of that first inch of bore. I now keep a bright yellow plug in the end of the air gun that hangs over that door. Upon inspection I also discovered the larger more common mud daubers had completely sealed the nozzles of the fire extinguishers in my garage and out buildings. Those now have a strip tape covering the ends with a pull tap so they can be quickly cleared.

I have an air compressor and I blow the lint off my all my carry guns a couple of times a week. I think compressed gas (aerosol) would be good too.

Even a shop vac offers a blower function.

Check your POCKET CARRIED MAGAZINES on a regular basis, all kinds of pocket lint and stuff shows up in them, you'd be suprised. Be sure to CHECK and CLEAN THEM.

We lube the barrels and put a piece of black electrical tape over the end of the barrel for all our barn and shop guns.
