I realize there are similar threads out there already. My question is a little "different" based on something that happened with a young man who is a friend of a friend. I originally didn't believe the story till I saw it on the news.
The guys is riding his motorcycle. Is wearing a back pack. Stops at a local school for an unknown reason. Conducts his business. Goes out to his Bike, parked in the street, opens his back pack. Gets out his side arm, tucks it away in in a CC holster and rides off.
A warrent is issued for his arrest based on security video of him having a firearm on school grounds. He turns himself in to the police. Have heard no further information at this time.
Obviously if he would have rode a block away nothing would have happened. Poor choice I get that.

But the question that comes to mind for me given this precedent, our Church is also a day care.....and a school. If I CC and someone "notices" I am wondering if it will be a problem? It is a large church with 3 Sunday morning services. So I don't know "everyone" or everyone who may be CC also. I am sure some others are carrying, my "thought" being defensive or "proactive" if you will.....am I setting my self up for trouble if I just carry under my shirt on my belt? Or should I make certain it can not be seen?
Looking for opinions/ advice.....also someones take on if it is still "school grounds" when it is being used as a church? What if I go to a program there? My grand daughter goes there for daycare? Or if it maybe only applies to regular public/ government schools not private schools?

Sorry for the long question.......

Check your areas local and state laws concerning schools, churches, and CCW. Concealed carry is exactly what it sounds like. Nothing overt about it. Again, check the laws in your area.

Plus 1.
Public schools are certainly a no-no.I would imagine that churches, and church held activities might have their own rules..

I'll second walkin' trails comment. The laws in each state are different. You need to research the laws in your state. Knowledge is power and can keep you out of jail.

In Wyoming, you can carry in church except during worship services. If you have permission from the pastor, you can carry in the worship service. I don't know about a church that has a school function, but I think there is no restriction about day care. I don't have any reason to go to schools or day care facilities so I haven't researched it. Other posters are correct. Find out your state/local laws and church policy.

In Missouri you can have a gun in your vehicle on school property.

Your local laws will determine what is legal.

I live in Utah. Concealed carry is allowed in public schools by permit holders, even school employees and teachers. It also allowed on State colleges and universities. Schools and university can not requirer permit holding students, employees or teachers to notify them they are carrying. It has been that way for years.

Churches like other private property owners here in Utah may allow or not allow carry.

BTW...the blood is not running in the hallways of our Utah schools because of concealed firearm permit holders. They are not "Gun Free Zones".

Well after some looking....best I could find was on Wikipedia.....bottom line no guns on school grounds or DAY CARE.......saw nothing about the Church that is also a school.....may be a "question" for an attorney.....and to keep it "concealed".
Second piece of info...IN...as I read the "statute" doesn't differentiate between concealed or open carry. If you have a card to carry, you are good to go. Except schools day care and airports...pretty much only exclusions......in other words those are "Gun Free" zones by the wording of the state law......

A church is a church and a school/day care is a school/day care. Our church looked at expanding and opening a day care on our church grounds and decided the tentacles of government regulation regarding schools/day cares was something we did not want on our church property.

Thanks for the link MSgt G....while it took me to a different place..that listed the "rules" more accurately, it is "copied from" the "States legal papers" and is a little tough to read. I think after reading this, that I could ask for "permission" from the church or school/ day care and never have an issue. Before I go that route...going to speak to the family attorney and see what their thoughts are.

In Texas, school grounds (parking lot, sidewalks, etc.) are okay. Even on the grounds as long as no students are present. Inside the premise (building) or on a school bus is prohibited unless you have specific permission from the school (which is highly unlikely). I have to pay special attention to this as my son is a middle school choir director and my wife and I often go to his concerts. So for me, that situation would be a definite no-no.

As for churches, it is legal to carry if the church has not posted the proper signage to prohibit it or has not given verbal notice. I asked at my church and they said it was okay as long as you conceal and not open carry.

I live in Mississippi, and a bill has been introduced in our legislature to permit carry during church services. Some people already CC.

A most wise decision.

This is an area where statutes, state to state, vary considerably. In my state, private schools may adopt policies to allow carry by licensed individuals in both in the buildings as well as on student transport. Public schools may permit specially trained staff/employee to carry.

This is an area where the statues have changed some each year. If you have a permit you are obligated to review the statues at least annually.
