Went to the range today with a new box of CCI AR Tactical. The last batch of this ammo I bought came in boxes of 375 and it was brilliant - three boxes and no issues at all.
The latest batch I've bought now comes in boxes of 300 and after going through one full box today, I'm not too impressed. With mags loaded with 25 rounds, I had 2 to 3 failures to fire each time. The cases showed that they had been struck with force but had failed to go off. Loaded them into the mag and trying them again, they all fired the second time.
I then tried them in my K22 X-Trim LBP and had the same problem. Then went through 100 CCI Mini Mags in both guns and not one problem.
Is anyone else finding that they are having the same issues with the newer AR Tactical?

Hi Rich, yes i had exactly the same result with CCI Tactical. :(
I am pleased that i only bought 600 to try them, i tried 300 and gave up i will keep them for plinking only as that amount of stoppages is unacceptable for comps.
I much prefer RWS Semi Auto in my Smith for comps, i have always used Mini Mags in the past but i think the RWS is more accurate.
Mine also runs on CCI standard without issue.
I understood that the CCI Tactical had been especially made for Smith 15-22's ???
Maybe we have a bad batch! :confused:

I use CCI Tactical as my match ammo for Ruger Rimfire matches. Has run great in both my 15-22 and Ruger 22/45 Lite.

To those having issues: Are you running lighter hammer springs?
 
I use CCI AR-Tactical in my competition 15-22s, AR-22s and 10/22s with just about zero failures. I get more failures using Minimags in my Brownings (maybe one in 200 rounds verses 0 with CCI AR).
One issue with CCI ammo is if the lube cakes up don't use that ammo in cooler weather unless you heat the ammo up. I used AR Tactical in my 15-22 in both the NSSF NC regional and the World Championship with 0 issues, then switched to my new race 10/22 and used the same ammo in the NSSF NJ regional and the PA State Steel Challenge with 0 issues.
One thing I do or not do regularly is clean my raceguns. Maybe every couple of months at the most often but usually less. and I shoot them in competition a minimum of 3 matches a month and usually more. Cleaning a rimfire too much is worse than not cleaning it at all.

I just bought my first box, and it was the 300 round (3x100 round "trays"). Hope the reputation I bought it on is still valid.

Because I also shoot Rem Thunderbolts (it is what I can find most of), I clean all the .22s after each range trip when those are involved in the day. That's a job.
 
This issue with the AR Tactical is new to me. As I stated, I had run 3 boxes of the 375 per box through both my 15-22 and K22 with no issues at all.
Yesterday I had quite a few failure to fire rounds using both guns, all showing a good hit on the cases. Reloaded all these rounds and they all fired the second time.
Just to make sure that there wasn't a problem with the guns I then ran 100 Mini Mags through the two guns with no problems.
Maybe just a bad batch but I think I'll be switching to RWS Semi Auto

It is kind of hard to get hold of AR tactical or RWS semi auto around these parts...so I shoot Eley Sport through both my Anschutz and 15-22, probably have one bad primer per brick...although you can guarantee that one will be during a comp...hence the BAD lever and lots of tactical reload practice. Generally though it seems to function fine and is consistently accurate for a cheap round. Did you have the same problems with the ammo with the heaviest spring set on your new trigger? I am really intrigued by that trigger system it looks like that could be the set-up for me.
 
Hi GhostMutt, no I've only the lightest set of springs on the 24C. I don't think that this has caused the issues I've had, you should see the positive smack that the cases have had but not gone off but do on the second attempt. Even with the lightest springs fitted the trigger hammer hits a fair bit stronger that the stock trigger.
Also as stated, I was getting this issue using to guns that have had about 1125 rounds of AR Tactical through them without a hitch.

Re: OP. IIRC I have fired either three of four boxes of the CCI AR Tactical. Results have been entirely excellent. No issues. Came in 300 rd. boxes, which I suppose is the new reality of .22 LR marketing, not unlike Federal using 40 rd. boxes/400 rd. bricks.

I am running the original trigger parts in mine except for the Yellow spring set.
I have had the odd F to Fire with various ammo's i have tried since i had the gun.

When i saw the reviews of the AR Tactical i thought i must try some:D

As i said in my earlier post i had at least 4-5 F to Fire's just like Rich when i put them back in the gun they all went bang!

I then decided it just wasn't worth using them for any comps, at the same time i bought the CCI AR tactical i purchased some RWS Semi Auto and had no problems very accurate & very reliable in my 15-22 i used them to shoot the speed steels at Bisley in the AAW without any issues.
Maybe we have a bad batch in this country mine was also in the new boxed amount of 300.:confused:
Given that they are not what i would call cheap i don't think i will be using them again. Cheers
 
I think you could be right there stonecutter, could be a bad batch and who wants to be let down by their ammo. Lucky for me, I was just putting in some practice yesterday so no real harm done apart from the other two boxes I bought along with the one I used up.
RWS Semi Auto seems the way to go.

Have you guys contacted CCI to discuss? I believe they are a Federal company now, which has always taken care of their customers.
 
As said I have no issues with CCI Tactical BUT I have a Geissele trigger which has a + strength hammer spring. I went thru this on my Ruger 22/45 Lites. I like how they cycle with the reduced power hammer spring but reliability (going bang every time) goes in the toilet while with the heavier hammer spring all is well...
 
I've had good luck with CCI Tactical myself in both sized packages. I never have had a failure in my AR but did have some failures in my new Sig 1911-22 in the first couple mags when it was new. I blamed it more on needing to break in the gun and not the ammo as it's worked fine in it since.
I was disappointed in the smaller package as my price was the same as the bigger box. I didn't complain though as was happy to find some 22lr for sale. I got lucky as UPS had just delivered it to my LGS before I got there.
 
Hi Goblin, will give it a try along with a few others. Always stuck with Mini Mags until I came across the AR Tactical and was quite happy with them till now. So will be trying more now and see what works the best.
Thanks for the suggestion, good to get feedback from others.
