Hi all,

I inquired with CCI when the tactical .22LR ammo would be available outside of Cabelas and just got this reply:

"Since Jan 1st 2011 the CCI Tactical product is being offered at other retailers than just Cabelas...any retailer that offers CCI products should be able to get the Tactical product."

I haven't had a chance to look around yet but if anyone finds it online other than Cabelas please post the seller info.

I forget where, but I read a write up of this ammo that said it was very well suited for the AR style .22's. Feeds reliably and is very accurate.

Don't knock it simply because of its name, it's supposed to be good stuff.

"tactical .22LR ammo" ?????

:D

Not tactical as in tactical use, but tactical as in specifically designed for tactical style .22LR rifles. It was tested by CCI specifically to feed without problems in the 15-22 and several forum members have tried it and attest to its performance.

I had to mail order it from Cabela's and it was 6.3 cents per round (with a free dry box included-no way to NOT get the box via mailorder) and that was before shipping and sales tax (there is a Cabela's in my state). The CCI Mini Mags are 6.5 cents per round here at WalMart before tax. So, it is a wash. Don't know yet if the Tacticals will preform better than Mini Mags as I have not started shooting them yet. I personally believe for 95% of us we will see no difference. Just my $.02

I am sure CCI Tactical feeds well. Here is a list of ammo that I have found feeds just fine in my 15-22.

Fed Bulk pack
Fed Lightening
Fed AutoMatch
CCI SV
CCI Mini-Mag
CCI Stinger
CCI Blazer
Aguila Match Rifle
Aguila SE Extra
Aguila SSS
Wolf match
Rem GB
Rem Target
Rem 22SubSonic (not enough umph to cycle bolt consistently)
Winchester Wildcat

Ammo that does not feed well.
None

Are you guys really having such feeding problems with your 15-22 to pay a premium for CCI Tactical? $95/1500 on sale at Cabellas? At those prices you're getting into the entry level match grade ammo like Aguila Match Rifle.

Yup, people are paying a ridiculous price for bulk ammo just because it has "Tactical" in the name.

I believe they're buying it because of this: "It was tested by CCI specifically to feed without problems in the 15-22". I wasn't attracted to the name & thought it was a gimmick but if they have little case of these(100 rounds), I'll try them out.

I bought this ammo, cost the same in price as mini mag for me unless mini mag is on sale, no problems with it. Shot it out of my 15-22 pistol. Never had a problem with mini mag either. I did have problems with a 100 round pack of Winchester, cant remember the type, it was a high velocity and it would not eject the cases, the spent case would jam between the bolt and new round.

I'm sure the price of those will come down some to where they're a bit cheaper than mini mags....or at least they better get cheaper considering they're bulk packed which costs them like ten cents instead of the plastic containers mini mags come in. I like packaging on the Mini Mags way better as the rounds aren't in there slammin against each other messin up the lead. (every little bit helps with these tiny rounds imo)

I'll give them a shot though for sure...once they're cheaper than mini mags.

I've run 1875 rounds of this ammo between my M&P 15-22 and CMMG Quebec A. No FTF or FTE on my M&P (or CMMG) running this ammo. Previously running bulk pack ammo (Winchester and Remington) about every 7 rounds was a FTF in the M&P.

Hype and marketing. As Phil showed above, plenty of ammo feeds fine in the 15-22. Don't get me wrong I will try a box if I see it, but only if it's the same price per round as Fed bulk pack or CCI Blazer.

"It was tested by CCI specifically to feed without problems in the 15-22".

American Rifleman tested all the Tactical .22s. I don't remember reading about any feeding problems, but I think there was only one rifle among the bunch that shot worse with CCI Tactical than the 15-22, and that was the Mossberg. The Ruger and Remington averaged just under 1in at 50yds with CCI Tactical. The 15-22 had groups averaging double that size with CCI Tactical IIRC. YMMV....

I have a later model - and I have to say that my M&P has not been picky AT ALL on ammunition and LOVES Federal Bulk ($14+ for 550 rds) - unless in a very competitive tactial 22AR comp situation there should be no reason to have to buy anything other than Fed Bulk - and to be honest I use Fed Bulk even in comps - and see other guys with cci mags, stingers etc etc and they have more FTF than anybody.

Wow, that's the FIRST time I've heard that claim. Yeah, fed bulk feeds and goes bang. But it's no where near as consistant as CCI Mini Mags for groupings and as far as I've read on this board, Fed Bulk has far more issues than CCI's (not everyone mind you, Fed Bulk feeds and goes bang for many).

Fed Bulk isn't bad ammo. It's just not in CCI's class. Everyone who's posted up groupings of both, side by side, CCI's always grouped tighter with far fewer flyers.

MiniMags are for critters, not precision shooting at paper.

in order to hit that critter you better have the ammo that is able to go where you want it to go. its one thing to go out and blast lead around and another to see how good your wepon will shoot, i am guilty of doing both, when i am out throwing lead i use bulk ammo when i want to make small groups i use the better ammo....

Some of our rifles will only eat the CCI. Yesterday a buddy's 15-22 had a FTE every other round on Federal. Not so w/ CCI. Grouping is secondary to functioning in this case.

That's all well and good. My point is that .22s generally shoot smaller groups with SV ammo rather than HV ammo. So if precision paper shooting is the goal, the money spent on Minimags might be better spent elsewhere.
