I saw program about a week ago on HLN. Money matters by Chuck Howard, I think. He told of a cell phone that you could get. It costs $.07 per minute. It's meant for people like me that seldom use one but like to have one if ever needed. No contract required.

I should have written down the name at that time but didn't. Anyone know of this phone ?

There are all sorts of low-cost phone coverage options. If you already have a CDMA phone (verizon, sprint, etc) you could try some of the resellers of airtime.

I use PagePlus (resells verizon minutes) and am happy with what I get. I was able to use my (now) three year old Motorola E815s and it works fine for texting and voice calls.

I'm currently paying 6 cents a minute but I have had their plans before.

$44.99 unlimited texting and talk...
$29.99 1200 minutes 1200 texts...

If I bought a $50 card, I would drop to 5 cents a minute but I rarely use the phone for voice calls. You can also get a $10.95 plan that gives you 2000 texts a month or unlimited texts for $19.95.
