I started looking at the Cerakote sites and want to know if this is a potential DIY project. There are lots of colors available. I thought there were only 4-5 colors. Boy was I wrong.

You can buy the coating online for $35/4oz Is that enough to do 50-70 square inches??

A LGS quoted about $100-125 over the phone for a job I described. He said he was caught up but still quoted a 2 week turnaround.

Is this a brush on and bake process like greenware pottery, sprayed with an air gun or dipped like camo graphics? Drying/curing time??

One coat or multiple coats? And lastly, is the finish impervious to Hoppes and similar solvents?

I am clueless about the whole process.

check out brownell's alumahyde 2, I have been using it for years, it is eazy to use in a spray can and one can will do several guns. you don't have to bake it but it has to cure for several days but when it cures it is tough as nails;
I have done guns and stocks.
it is less than 10 bucks a can and has many colors.

Alumahyde looks great. Very good reviews on the Brownells site. Plus it's cheap. One can would cover my project easily. A couple reviewers mentioned baking parts at 150-200 degrees to speed up curing time.
