I'm starting to get some small pitting on the top rear of the slide, and bottom of frame. Was thinking of maybe doing a cerakote to stop the rust before it gets worse. Is doing a coating going to kill the value down the road? (or would it be 'sacrilegious' to coat?)

I've been wiping down with oil maybe once a month, amd keep stored in one of those silicone gun socks... It's strange as my stainless Victory is treated the same way and doesn't have this issue...

I've been using hoppes and/or clp when cleaning, and wipe everything down with lucas gun oil. Anything better to try and break down/remove the small rust spots on this stainless slide? I'll get a little the rigs and give that a try for post cleaning wipe down.

I would not Cerakote any SS gun. I am about to try Cerakote on a couple of my beater pistols that the blue and Bruniton (Beretta) finishes have worn off. They are inexpensive pistols values at less than $400 each. More like $200 so Cerakoting them not only preserves the metal for long term it may actually help the value a little. But that Beautiful 1911... I would not do it.
