Sometimes I note that some folks need to grump about unsatisfactory products of all types, and I am not above some pretty harsh feedback to those I think deserve it. This post will be a lot different.

Some time back, I bought a 945-1 (or -2, too lazy to get up and look) compact here. Not a good fiscal choice, but it appealed to me. As a lefty, a good factory ambi safety was important. I shot it a bit, and while a good performer, the sights did not work for my eyes. I sent the slide to Bill (BMCM) and we chatted up something that turned out well.

Since I tend to not have any handgun I can't carry for serious, I looked into some leather. While the pistol looks like a compact 1911, it was a little thicker in some dimensions and the factory holster I bought did not quite work. I started looking into some form of custom leather and did some significant internet research. I got turned down or was unable to find what I wanted a couple of times.

Roughly two months ago, I saw something on Lobo Gunleather's site that with some modifications might work. I was looking for something in the nature of a belt slide, but worn between the belt and trousers for a little more support and concealment. If you don't try, you will never know, so I made a phone call.

The nice lady who answered the phone connected me to a man who apparently thought my idea was workable, with some insights about design. Part of the idea was to make it not so precisely boned because the pistol is a bit thicker than a compact 1911 would be, although similar. We chatted, we agreed, and I was told ... mid-June. Not bad, so I pretended to be patient.

Earlier than expected, I got a package in the mail yesterday. Nicely made, stout leather, nice attention to detail. All good, but the real question was how it worked. As I got ready for work, I tested the belt slots with one of my Mean Gene belts, which are stout. The fit was just great - as if they were designed with each other in mind. The fit of the pistol was also about as good as one could expect since the design was over the phone and to some extent based on SWAG. Nice, but not so tight that it was a pain.

The tricky part that no one can predict is what happened in terms of fitting my trouser belt loops. I have seen some who will move the loops, but that is not my skill set and I was hoping for the best. So I plodded on, and ... darned near perfect. I had the holster made with a slide guard, which turned out to be a good idea. I snugged down the belt, inserted the pistol, and looked in the mirror. Good retention and concealment. Pretty comfortable, although moving the belt loops a little would reduce the contact of the slide with my hip bones.

Summary: this could not have been better designed and made if I had driven to their shop and been fitted right there. Fine quality; great workmanship, very fair price, and it just plain works. A huge thumbs up.

Glad it worked out!

I bought a pair of cargo shorts I really like, except the %*^%* front belt loop is *right* where I want my IWB clip. No option to reconfigure my bodily contours… :(

It was a 945-1 as a 945-2 was never made. They did make this pistol in four different sizes. The two compact sizes are alloy frame.

They also made a short run of them in .40 S&W, only in the short size. I would love if they had made a full 5-inch .40 cal but alas, they did not.

This kind of thing is why I taught myself to sew a couple years ago. Nothing fancy but a very handy skill to have.

A thrift store sewing machine and some elbow grease open up whole new worlds to you..

In my town there is a lady who sews ... she can re-configure a wedding dress or move a belt loop easy ...
Check and see if you have Tailor Shop .
She also makes the front right pocket of my cargo shorts into a holster for my Air-Weight J-Frame S&W ... those Tailor people are pretty good at making things happen the way you want them .

A chance? Yes. A little more than my Luddite self can be expected to do well? Probably. Gimme a couple days.

I took the pix and transferred them to this computer. Attempting to attach them got me the spinning beach ball of death and required a forced restart. No idea why. I have switched browsers and will try again, maybe in a distinct post from this one so I can least save the text. They are in no real order, as I was just trying to show different aspects.

One was taken with the pistol in it. I suspect that the holster would work with my Wilson KZ9 5" and my barbecue gun (custom commander size with my bar # for a serial number). That would have required something too much like work to dig them out the safe.

Cool! Basically a Yaqui belt slide with a minimalist sweat shield.
And it is configured to fit inside the belt - between the belt and trousers?
Very unique and innovative. Never seen anything quite like it.
I LIKE IT!

Yup, between the belt and trousers. Your description is on point; that's what we did. It is amazing how well it works when you consider we just chatted on the phone and came to a conclusion. My idea might have been valid, but the folks at Lobo made the concept work.

As a sign of how much I like this holster, I did what my Dad called voting with my feet. I ordered a similar holster for a G17 with an Aimpoint Acro mounted. I did it all via email/text, and will be calling to pay today. The price is a bit higher, because I think they undercharged for the original. Doesn't bother me at all - quality matters and that is what I am relying on.

By being between the pants and belt, I get better support. The concealment is very good.

The new holster arrived. It is boned a little more tightly, so I unloaded the pistol (for safety while I was applying force to seat it) and shoved it in to start the break-in process. I expect I will leave it there until Monday when I go to work, but I will likely remove and reinsert to help the break-in. Looks like it will work just as I want. It was made with room for the RDS (Acro), but will also work with my non-RDS G17.

A collateral issue: Most of my trousers are Duluth Fire Hose. Post surgeries, I have been losing weight for a variety of reasons that don't matter here. The trousers I bought in the fall of '22 were getting too loose, so I went down a size (same as I wore in HS!). The cut of the front pockets is slightly different, which is ... annoying. There is also some odd velcro loop on the sides that made the holster bulge out a bit. Darned annoying, and seems to serve no purpose that regular loops don't. My wife is doing more sewing in her retirement, and took the darned thing off. She'll do the other pairs soon.

Years ago, 20+, there were a couple of holster makers that produced the between the belt and pants design. The ones I recall didn't use the belt slide/pancake style, but the same concept. I was intrigued by the design. I have tried it with IWB holsters, just between the belt and pants. Your thinking outside the box with this was an obvious success.

Thanks. I suspect that I was influenced by residual awareness of such designs. This gives the advantage of using the belt to pull the holster and pistol in tighter, without the problems presented in trouser fit by using an IWB design.
