Charging Handle Latch

Has anyone replaced just the latch on their charging handle? Does one from an AR15 work? I have BCM/Vltor charging handles on all of my AR15's and like the bigger latch, makes charging easier with gloves on. I know there is a nice charging handle from South Africa, but doubt there is any way to get one here in the US. I have looked at the Doomsday handle, but its out of stock. So I thought about getting a larger replacement latch and putting it on the plastic handle. Has anyone done this and if so, which one did you use?

I bought one from BCM, I believe it was #3. Anyway their largest one. I really like it.

Yep, that's whats on all of my 5.56 guns, the MOD 3. Works well for me. Would like something similar on my 15-22.

Forget the Doomsday handle as the last batch made had faults

and the South African handle IS the best out there

i have 2 of them one bought direct from South Africa and the

other from America that MSTKing was selling.....i bought the

last one of only 50 made.......i still have it new and unused

in its bag and would sell it as i only need one of them...

i can confirm they are great handles

The full size charging handle latches will not work on the 15-22, they are a different size. Simple Weapon Solutions used to make replacements and they worked great. However I don't think he is producing anymore.

Shame, they really are nice and work very well with the Tacticool charging handle, which are not in production anymore either.

NDZ Performace makes a replacement latch. I have it on the OEM charging handle and it works. I just liked the SWS ones better.

I know some folks on here would disagree, but i run a plinker tactical w/oversized latch and it works perfectly for me. It clears the scope and makes quick charging a breeze. It is large and elevated enough to fit my needs perfectly.

The 'saffa' made charging handle gets rave reviews and the IP rights have been bought and are back in production i do believe,being sold by....

I understand that these are the best products out there..but if you are having difficulty getting one then the PT handle gets my thumbs up. FWIW.

At this time I run a Tacticool Metal Handle with an NDZ Latch, works a treat and functions without any issues.

I also have an SWS extended latch that fits the supplied S&W Plastic Handle. Also works a treat.

Tried the Plinker handle, but wasn't convinced.

Doomsday was fine for me with no issues, but as a right paw it was more dress than function so moved it on.

Haven't tried the ZA MST so no comment on that one.

NDZ latch is coated so leaves no marks on Upper. Others are plain metal so can and often do leave marks.
Not something I worry about but I know folks do, so could be a point worth noting.

That's my pennies worth. Rest I guess would be up to you.

The MST handle is honestly the tits, however I only have the original S&W to compare it to.
