My employer is relocating me to Charlotte-Douglas International Airport. My wife and I are country folks at heart. What towns should I be looking at ? Reside in North or South Carolina ? I would like to keep my commute no more than 40 minutes.

What are you looking for. Two big lakes, Wylie in NC/SC and lake Norman ~20 miles north. Norman is a TOUGH commute but has a lot to offer.

Since you're from SC, you might look at Fort Mill, Clover, Indian Land. Not as pricey as the lake living. The SC schools in this area are highly rated compared to the rest of the state.

I stay out of Charlotte as much as I can.

Charlie ... from Fort Mill.

You might also want to consider York county, SC. Such towns as York and Chester will be at the long end of your commuting time frame, but the property taxes are less than in NC counties, and you can shoot with less regulation than in NC, if you live outside the towns.

We live in Rock Hill, SC and it takes just about 30 minutes to get to the airport. SC has a lot to offer-low taxes and we did not have the DNC

Thanks for all the responses. More, than likely, I'll be staying on the SC side for the tax advantages. Any shooting ranges/clubs in the Fort Mill area ? My primary interests are trap/skeet and IDPA shooting.
