The Federal Government is not even allowed to have a gun owners registry yet Illinois does. That's why I won't ship anything there that requires an FOID card in the transaction (ammo, etc.)

This is a new thing going around with some Dems and news agencies, here in NY several local papers have been trying to do this with pistol permits in conjunction with some lawmakers. I think its two-fold. One, I think it is to scare some gun owners into getting rid of their guns for fear of burglars / shame. I think the other reason, more nefarious, is that everyone will know what they have, including those who might want to confiscate them in the end. These types of requests always come about annually somewhere with what is known as Sunshine Week, which is always the first week of March, which is supposedly an open government thing, and always seem to be more after Conservative issues. (It's always when our local paper rehashes the pistol permit issue.)

We can only hope that through our system of checks and balances that sane people will prevail...I am not holding my breath. Seems like anything is up for grabs these days.
