Choose a jaguar gun

Tigers, like other dangerous wild animals, are better left alone in their own turf. We had 12 troops, IIRC, that were lost to Asian Tigers in Viet Nam. Some, of course, were not recovered. One account I recall had the tiger come right into the lines at knight and snatch the soldier, running off into the bush with him, irregardless of everything a night defensive infantry position includes, being in place.

Never get out of the boat! Never get out of the boat!

Forget the boat!!! Take a look at the two videos on this clip from National Geographic. The first is the Arizona Jaguar which has apparently been dubbed "El Jefe", or The Boss... And is pretty impressive. But the second video, which I believe was filmed in South America, shows just how stealthy the jaguar is, and also, how quietly and strongly he can swim, and just what a bite he has when he gets to you!!!

Only Known Jaguar in U.S. Filmed in Rare Video

You probably wouldn't even hear him sneaking up on you.

I need to look this up

okay... Here's one for the brainiacs here... how close genetically are jaguars and leopards ? Did they develop entirely separately.. or was the main type started before the continents broke apart... I always wondered about this...

Leopard and Lion are closest, both are close to the jaguar. IF they have common genes I believe that it goes WAY back into prehistory because Africa, Asia and European cats seem to have been completely separate from the NA jaguars. DNA says that they are not very closely related, but there are cats that have gone extinct that may share more links with both.

They go back so far that the Pangea may have been the only opportunity the four big cats to share relatives. If not that, maybe the ice bridge during the ice age and the time of saber toothed cats and their kin may have been the only time after the Pangea to mix.

Thanks for posting those!

Any animal that looks at a croc and thinks "no problem" is one I have no desire to tangle with!

I've always wondered how big of a bear a big cat could take in a fight.

And no, you probably wouldn't hear one stalking you. I've developed this certain walk, called the cougar woods walk. About every 10 steps, you turn suddenly, freeze, and scan the surroundings. I don't seriously do that, but it cracks people up when I show them how to walk in the woods.
