No slot for an extra magazine.

No end label.

No barrel length listed.

Inner box lid statement dated 1955.

Price list effective 1960.

Any thoughts?

I have Model 41 number 117XX. It shipped June 16, 1958. The box and contents are in a safe at my office, so I cannot check the date on the parts list tonight. I speculate that the 1960 parts list with this box is not original to this box. Hope that helps.

Aussie Collector is correct. The box is a 1958 based on the serial number on the bottom but the parts list is incorrect because it shows the 5 1/2” Heavy Barrel that wasn’t introduced until August 1963. The barrel length is not on the box because in 1958 the only barrel available was the 7 3/8” with the comp. S&W started shipping with two magazines in 1962.

Agree, I have seen a slightly later version of this box with magazine slots and for the 5.5” heavy barrel.

Looks right to me. If you do use said box for the pistol storage, use VCI paper and do not let the cardboard touch the gun! Cardboard turns acidic and can and will ruin a guns finish! The VCI paper will protect it just fine.
