I will be picking up my Shield in 9 mm on Friday. This being Illinois I have to go in today and fill out the paper work and then wait 72 hrs.

I have always cleaned and lubed a new gun before firing, what are your thoughts on firing right out of the box? I am really looking forward to shooting the Shield.

While I understand your desire to get out and shoot it is a good idea to clean and lube first. This allows you to inspect the gun to insure it doesn't have any obvious issues and that it passes your satisfaction test. It also gives you a little handling time to become familiar with its operation if you haven't had one before.

They don't clean them after assembly and test fire so it needs a proper cleaning and lubing before you send a bunch of rounds through it. JMHO.:)

I agree

Thanks for the reply, of course I agree with you, I was hoping for some divine answer to shoot it right away.

Clean the gun. There could be some metal shavings left in the gun from the manufacturing process. GARY

Being in California my constant anxiety attacks took place over 240 hours, our ten day waiting period.
Clean it first.

Yeah, we have a 10 (24 hour periods) wait here in CA. It's no fun and I'm in that queue right now.

The recommendations to clean before shooting are good. Even so, you will not damage your gun if you fire it right out of the box.

If nothing else, I would at least look down the bore. Any gun that has been out of my possession could have seen some poor handling. Just ensure nothing is in the bore, a cursory look at the internals and you should be good to go.

Clean it, agree with all above. It takes 5 min. The hardest part is pushing down that little yellow rod, and you can choose to dry fire to avoid that. Very easy clean.

It won't hurt to just go and shoot and have fun...I clean all my guns before shooting...Next to my Nano, it doesn't take that long to clean and inspect...
