Cleaning rods

. Found this in an old metal boxed cleaning kit, is it a S&W cleaning rod or something home made? The end is threaded for a brush or jag.

I can't speak for S&W rods prior to the early 70s, but it certainly doesn't look like any S&W cleaning rod that came with any of my revolvers. Looks like an old GI issue rod to me, but it could be anything.

Reason I asked is, I was looking in the S&W book and they show some early rods that looked like that but the picture is hard to get a really good look. a GI issue does make sense. Thanks for your reply
