I have a question concerning lubrication of my SD9VE. I have just recently purchased this pistol and have read the lubrication instructions in the manual, but I have also watched a video by Apex Tactical showing lubrication with white lithium grease. So which is right - oil or grease on the four slide points and the barrell?

i would use oil...grease doesnt seem to be good for areas the dirt and grime to get in easy, it turns into an abrasive. i use oil, but thin enough to be almost a film and it clean it every use and reapply. over lubericating can cause failures and same with under lubrication, the key is in the middle

Thanks, I have some stuff in a syringe called "Shooters Choice" All Weather High-Tech Grease. When I bought it at Cabela's I thought it was the old black grease I used to use on my shot gun rails. Come to find out it is red in color and more like the viscosity of oil. Did some quick research on it and have found a lot of folks singing it's praises. Both my Glock and S&W call for just a drop on each rail on the frame. Thinking about using it.

I tried Lithium Grease once, never again. When it gets hot, it turns to a sticky mess.
I use high temp grease on my SD40VE rails and slide, and oil in and outside the barrel. This works wonderfully.

I've used Shooters Choice (syringe) grease that you are talking about. Have used it with a Browning Hi-Power, Colt 1911, S&W 1911, and my 3953. Works like a charm and have never had a problem and it stays put. I also use Break-Free CLP and Rem-Oil. The key is - use something! I know of guys that use MobilOne synthetic motor oil too.

I've been using good quality grease on my guns for years. Oil runs in places you don't want it, grease stays put.

I'm guessing you're joking
as the 1911 never was a blowback action-it has always been recoil operated.I use what ever is available. Used Hoppes gun oil, CLP, MILITEC,Remoil, Mill. issue from a green squeeze bottle that was probably issued back in the 80's and currently using Prolix only because it came in a bottle with a nifty dropper for more precise placement.
I never had an issue with any of them. If you clean it after each range session or even more than once a year any lube made for guns or machines will be fine IMHO.

Don't forget that grease attracts dirt like steel to a magnet. I don't put it in exposed areas, especially if they are tight tolerance. Just something to consider
