Cleaning suggestions

I just picked up an SW Swat II knife from a pawnshop for 10 bucks, too good of a deal to pass up. The blade had been abused with some dents in the edge, but a little careful sharpening got that out... however the problem is there is something on the blade, sticky whatever it is.. I've tried a few cleaners, common methods for cleaning household knives... hell even soap.. This stuff isnt coming off and it's still sticky, anyone got an idea?

I'm not familiar with the knife, but Goo-Gone or fingernail polish remover might work. If it's a coated blade, the coating might not like it.

Can try that and will take pictures later. Supposed to have some rustyrag's cleaning cloth coming this week...

If its petroleum based, alcohol should take if off with no damage.

Flitz metal polish (paste) will probably take care of that problem for you.

Try Ronson lighter fluid in the yellow container (not gas)
