What method do you use to clean the area above the barrel under the top strap on your revolver?

Nylon bristle brush with some CLP.

I use a brass scraper I made from rifle brass. I’ve made them from both 223 and 270 brass. Just squeeze the neck and a portion of the shoulder flat, very flat in a vise. Being very flat, it should reach thru the gap between forcing cone and top strap.
Every so often I’ll square the face back up with a file to sharpen it.

If necessary, a rifle case with the mouth flattened to make a scraper.

Do an internet search on the term ...
Ed's Red Bore Cleaner recipe ... you can make a gallon for about $25.00 with 4 ungredients from Wally Mart ... it's good cleaner !

A thin strip of a lead-away cloth will take it all away, unless its a blued gun, it will take the bluing as well.

A stiff nylon toothbrush and solvent followed up with a 12 gauge heavy duty 3" x 3" cotton twill cleaning patch with solvent on it. Fold it in half and work it back and forth a dozen times with your fingers. This has worked well for me for 50+ years. If by any chance there is more stubborn build up, a nylon or plastic "dental pick" works. An old credit card sharpened up on a belt sander is reserved for really neglected forcing cone areas, but that is extremely rare.

I’m going to talk to my dentist about obtaining some dental floss with a slight abrasive in it that I think I’ve experienced him using over the years.

Seems a bit too thin to really get the gunk out. Beleive it or not I have also used sneaker lace material made of 100% cotton. I once had a roll of 100 feet but am unaware of they still sell it on rolls and made out of cotton. Cut a 6" piece, pour a little Hoppes 9 on it and work it back and forth between the forcing cone and the top strap - works very very well!
