I watched the movie last night and I was interested in the revolver the "Preacher" used. It is apparently a conversion from percussion to cartridge, but more than that I don`t know. I know the smart folks here will know all about it , so I`m looking forward to getting educated.

jack oconnor I just checked imfdb.org and according to that website the revolver in question.
is a Remington 1858 New Army percussion cap and ball revolver it was chambered .36 and .44 caliber,

and was later converted to fire Cartridges as well. I hope this information was helpful.

Actually common confusion with the name of that New Army Model. I think the consensus designation is the Model 1861 New Army. Here is one shown with a Colt 1860 army. Both 44 caliber.

I have a original 1858 remington new model army. It was refinished many years ago and has a king front sight with a red post. The hog wallow was squared up too. I used to own a ruger old army and I liked the original better. Except for reloading I wouldnt feel hampered with this gun today. It is accurate if you know what your doing when you load it.
