Clip falls out?

Hello.

I bought a M&P 380 last year and I like to fire in a group of five rounds @ 20 yd rather quickly. Today, the clip/magazine kept falling out after the first round down range.. change to another clip, same thing? I can wiggle the clip while in place and it pops out...

I know S&W monitors this site and wonder does my new 380 need repairs?

Any ideas other than "duct taping" it to stay in...

Thanks!!

You need to call S&W and get them to send you a label so you can ship it back for repairs.

It's no good the way it is.

Plastic parts do this.

Just discovered mag stays in very well without ammo...Perhaps I'm on to something... any advice greatly appreciated.

Will do, ah I've done some upgrades, trigger kit, recoil rod and spring do you think this will violate my warranty?

Since you've had it, did you ever experience resistance putting the magazine in, so you gave it a good hard slap to get it in there? This is a common issue with the bodyguards. I read about it before I bought the gun. A call to S&W resulted in a response of "it's normal".

But I never heard of it being a good idea to force anything. I press the magazine release as I slide the mag in and release it when it's seated. No resistance. I would bet that slamming the mag in rubbed away a piece of the magazine catch and that is why the magazine falls free.

I agree this is something that should be addressed by the factory, but since I carry this gun a lot but don't shoot it nearly as often as I do other guns (round count, I mean. I shoot it every time I go to the range but only a magazine or 2. It's not a fun range gun), I just deal with it. I like all the other features the gun has (even the long trigger pull. It's a self defense belly gun, not a target pistol), so I live with it. And honestly, pressing the mag button as I put the mag in is second nature to me now.

That bit about no problems with the magazine unloaded would lead me to confirm if the magazine is FULLY seated. Most of my Semi's can be a bit tough to fully seat a loaded magazine when the slide is closed and a magazine that isn't fully seated WILL fall out when you fire the pistol.

Lock back the slide and insert a mag. Then chamber a round. Does it fall out now? If it doesn't then the mag wasn't fully seated. But I still bet the mag catch was worn down a bit.

Are you putting hair clips in or paper clips in it? I know pistols take magazines that may be your problem.

I'm surprised this didn't come up earlier. So far everyone seems to understand what's being said....odd

I could not resist. You can call it whatever you want but it's interesting that people still call it clip. On the slide of lots of pistols it states pistol capable of firing without magazine.

clean mag release , may need to take it out .

I'd do that before sending in

Photos of the problem...

I'm trying to upload a photo of the rounded off mag catch but unable...I'll try again once I get home.

Yes, still fall out but I've added a photo so those who have to 380 bodyguard will probably come into the same problem.
