Clothes dryer vs. cigarette lighter

That was a Bic-type lighter? Day-um!

I'm not a smoker, but much like everything else, pocket lighters have come a long way. The article I linked above says.

********************

"The incident is being blamed on a cigarette lighter that was left in a clothing pocket and thrown in the laundry.

"Butane and lithium-Ion batteries can reportedly ignite under certain circumstances, making the man in the video incredibly lucky to be alive."

Possibly one like in the video link below. Rechargeable battery I guess? Also, maybe a gas dryer which contributed to the explosion?

I saw one blow up on a torch table.
Nothing like the video.
I do not no what happened but I do
Not think it was a lighter.

When I worked in the coke plant every so often we had safety meetings and a short video was involved. It usually involved railway workers with a Bic lighter in the pants pocket. A welding or a burning hot piece of metal would end up going down into the pants pockets would supposedly blow some poor dude’s leg and associated body parts would get pretty messed up from the small explosion. Over at the dry cleaner Mrs. Refrigeration and the ladies always check pockets, mainly looking for stuff the people leave that may be something cool, etc., like money. Anything over $20 gets turned in to the owner. They haven’t had any lighters blow up…yet.
A guy that belonged to the Eagles I used to belong to was in demolition training in Nam. Those containers that were used for refilling the butane lighters would get wired to an exhaust manifold and they let the car drive itself down the field and in short time the hood would blow off the front of the car. But I never witnessed this happen.
