CMC vs Timney

Hi everyone, new member here. This looks like a great board, looking forward to contributing as much as I can and soaking up as much information as I can.

I'm looking to choose a trigger that will run smoothly with a slidefire. From what I've read it's almost split down the middle of what people like between CMC and Timney. I don't want to try little things that end up not working, I would rather spend the money the first time and do it right.

Has anyone used both and can say what the difference is? Has anyone tried the flat trigger? The skeletal trigger looks real slick but that's another $50. Is there something I'm not seeing that justifies the $50-$100 more for the Timney?

I have the CMC trigger and the SlideFire, however I haven't put them together yet. Before I bought either I called both regarding this very issue. The SF people said the CMC flat trigger was their favorite trigger and that it worked extremely well. When I talked to CMC they told me basically the same thing. Since I shoot matches with my present 15-22, I am hesitant to break it down to put the SF on. I have decided to purchase a dedicated 15-22 next year for the SF. BTW, I really like the CMC on my 15-22 and can't ever see not having one. I actually found it online for $148 shipped about 1.5 years ago. They may be more now.

I don't run a Slidefire, but I've gotten some impressive performance from my Jard trigger and the pricepoint sure was right.

Rich, saw a video recently that showed some manufacturer / gunsmith testing his 15-22 with a Slidefire. he had to build a special muzzle device to get it to work right because it didn't have enough 'oomph' to make it work as designed.

I'll bet if you did a youtube search for '15-22 slidefire' you may find it rather quickly.

....and YES, the CMC triggers are about $10-$20 more now, I was checking them out because I really like the straight trigger, but I'll get by with my Geissele SSA. I'd like to shoot your 15-22 at the next match if that's OK with you....and you can shoot mine...OK?

You show me yours and I'll show you mine, JUST guns guys. BTW, I've seen several videos with the SF and the CMC trigger work flawlessly. Next year I'll set mine up and we can give it a try.

Can't comment on the CMC, but the Timney is great. Just make sure you order the 4# version and ask for the metal shim for composite receivers. The 3# is only for certain competition ammo and will not fire reliably with standard ammo, .22, 5.56 or other
 
I spent more time than I wanted to getting my Slide Fire to work w/ the Timney. It did not appear to be one thing but a combination of many. Most if not have been posted on here. What the issues were:

*Using KNS pins to keep the trigger tight.
*Metal shims under the set screws (again to keep trigger tight).
*Clipped firing pin spring.
*Make sure all points of movement are well lubricated (including mag)
*Keep bolt group clean.
*I machined firing pin for a little additional length.
* Use good ammo. Mine likes CCI Mini Mag.

Again, not sure that any one of these alone is the solution but the sum of all these has made mine cycle pretty close to 100% using the Slide Fire.
 
I had posted this in the SlideFire thread but wanted to pass it along to Others who may not Follow that thread.

So I Just wanted to do some updates on my Slidefire

So have a Timney trigger... love it think its a great Trigger. kept reading about the CMC and how well it does.... so i got one to try

1st off i dropped it in my S&W Sport.... WOW..... thing HITS like a donky... the Hammer spring is WAY stronger than the timney and STock Trigger... i mean Way Stronger...
Timney was just at 3lb3oz
CMC was at 3lb1oz

So last week i swapped em out... Timney in the Sport... CMC into the 15-22

Well today I tested it out..at 1st it was real nice..... can really tell the Hammer Spring Difference... feels like more of a POP when ya pull the trigger.
Then I tried some mag dumps... hmm not so good... BUT... reason was me... with the Heavy hammer my technique needs to change... i actually needed MORE umf on my forward pressure.
So tried again.... FREAKING awesome.... Full dumps.. no issues

then some Bursts (harder to do with the Timney, i would get FTF) easy ta do... actualy, due to Heavy hammer, thought i had FTF's.. then i'd pull the trigger and BAM... so realy easy to do Bursts with the CMC

then the FINAL Test..... Dropped in the 50rd drum and LET HER FLY.... OH YA BABY....full dump... was SWEET!!


So Anyone looking for a trigger for the Slidefire or a solid Trigger that wont give you any FTF..... CMC all the way... timney is Nice... but the CMC is way better
 
I have the CMC in mine. Make sure you get the KNS anti rotational pins as well. Per the rate of firing will make the factory pins to roll. No need for the muzzle break that everyone is saying that you need.

yer the reason i tried the CMC Trigger....:p

Thing Rocks....

Already had the KNS pins for my Timney... so Dialed there....

The Timney is SWEET in my M&P Sport so its not feeling Left out:D

I recently picked up a Hyperfire hypertouch 24c trigger and installed it in my M&P 15-22 and it is an outstanding trigger. It is easy to install and you can set your pull weight by using the supplied springs. The trigger feels very close to my JP factory trigger in my .223 rifle.
 
so did you guys go with the cmc flat trigger or curved. I sold my jard about a month ago and I'm gonna get a cmc now

The jard worked well with the slidefire but sucked on single fire for what ever reason

I am REALLY surprised how well the CMC Trigger is..... the Timney was Great... but the CMC is way better

I have gone through almost 500 Golden Bullets... yes the Forbidden Fruit....:p...... and the CMC just EATS em up..... Full Mag Dumps with the slide fire and 50rd Drum Dumps as well

thanks for the advice on the cmc trigger and kns pins. That is much better ..... much better
 
KNS pins here with CMC. I don't need any change to the muzzel brake. I took the one that came on the rifle off and now use a fake can. Works fine dumping ammo.
 
I've tried them all and took my time on each, had them in different rifles. End result is I have a Geissele SD 3gun in four rifles now. My personal opinion and for what I want those rifles to do I think it's the best made one out right now....the others don't come close. My second pick would be the Jard, you can tune that thing to infinity...it really surprised me. But they don't come with great instructions and you have to have a little knowledge to dial it in, so if you want a true drop in that may not work for you.
You don't need to buy extra springs or pins with either of those triggers, if somebody tells you that you have to buy the extras they are just wrong.
