Very nice! What was the final cost? Just curious.......:)

Got mine back in December. Remington Rand ‘43 with new barrel. Letterkenny rebuild. $1050.

A buddy of mine got his CMP 1911 this week. Colt upper over a Remington lower. It is the service grade and came in a FDE pelican style case with a certificate of authenticity. It's nice. Enjoy....

Very nice, much better than the super light grey parked finish most of this CMP batch seemed to have had.

$1050. It has the parkerized "shadow" common with these guns. It's an Augusta Arsenal 1970's-ish rework. No markings on the mag. On the back right side of the frame there's what looks to be part of a Springfield stamping but it is mostly missing. Serial number verifies the frame as a RR.

That’s a nice one!

My number is 10809, so I’m optimistic I’ll get one of next batch. Fingers crossed.

You may be closer than you think, I got mine yesterday, and I was number 10462. Beautiful Remington Rand, matching slide and frame. In fact everything except the thumb safety, grip safety, and barrel bushing appear to be original RR Parts. The best part to me was they still had Service, Rack and Field grades available so I had a choice, this one is service grade ($1050).

No idea how that works since the estimate was only about 7,500 of the original 8,000 would be available, apparently a lot did not complete the purchase.

Anyone have an idea about the ‘MB’ stamp on the rear of the slide? It’s not an Arsenal Stamp that I can find, all the other markings including the barrel are known correct Remington Rand Stamps or Inspector Marks.

Wow, that is a nice one!

A guy on another board supposedly did a Freedom of Information Act request to the Army on his serial number and found the Army had transferred it to CMP in Sept 2019, which would mean they are working their way through the second batch.

Fingers crossed.

I went with the new US Army auto ordnance, Springfield Armory GI mil spec in 2005 I got tired of the over pricing on the originals. The new AO was $389 the new SA was $424. I enjoy both, they run ammo flawlessly and everything matches.
Those and Rock Island Armory pistols make nice shooters and they are inexpensive. Military surplus and Colt's make nice pistols that hold long term value.

No doubt you can get a knock off 1911 for less than a real GI 1911. I have some.

You can also get a Universal M-1 carbine for cheap, too. But it will never be a USGI carbine.

I get it. CMP was too much of a hassle, you didn’t want to jump through hoops, or wait for a year. Its too much money - you used to get them for $25, they’re not all matching - on and on and on.......

But to about 19,000 of us it was worth it.

I don't know what my number was and had pretty much stopped thinking about getting one until I got a call last week. I choose the service grade but have not received it yet.

How long was it from the time they called you until you received yours? I got a call last week and was just curious how long they are taking to get them out.

They charged my CC and shipped it the same day they received the FFL from my LGS.

Follow-up with them, my guy told me he sent it by email, and he is as reliable as they come. A couple of days later I asked the young lady if she had received and was told they had not, odd I thought. In any case he sent it again, and that afternoon I got the FedEx Priority Overnight shipping confirmation, it arrived the next day. All CMP shipping is overnight.

My CMP 1911, a service grade, is the worst case example. Mismatch, bead blasted, arsenal refinished in the 70s. A guy on a smaller forum I go to got a field grade and it's a beaut. Not sure where everybody is living with super cheap USGI 1911s, but this is still well under private sale pricing. If I just wanted a shooter, I'd absolutely snag the first $300 used Rock Island I ran into, and it would be reliable and shoot about the same, I just couldn't turn down a legit USGI 1911.

They were warsman’s pistols, not showrooms.

When you’re knee deep on Iwo fighting banzais, or have a squad of Nazis 50 yards away with an MG42 blasting at you, the last thing you’re worried about is a crooked stamping on your pistol slide.

Add 50+ years of 19 year old kids knocking them around and you can develop quite a patina. The arsenal refinished CMP guns look a lot better then the 1911s we were issued in the 80s when our unit converted from wheeled to mechanized.
