Colt MKIV Series 70 Government Model 9m/m

Made in 1977. Kept on closet shelf til i acquired from widow in 2008 so no history. No box. Have not fired or pulled slide. Has carbon residue on slide rail. No wear, scratches, marking to indicate use. Looked on GB...only had Commander '76 no others this vintage. If you will advise approximate value today. Any info will be appreciated as not knowledgeable bout 1911's this age. Thanks for thoughts.

I am no Colt "expert", but based on recent prices I have seen, I would think a real clean & original series 70 Gvt. model might bring $1400.00 - give or take. Box & accessories would add some to the value. 1977 is still in the window of usually well made guns, just prior to the "strike years", and Colt's quality nosedive.

Similar acquisition a few years ago. Shoots great but, I don't care for the Series 70 GI sights.

My Colt serial number guide is at the office but, Series 70 Colts bring a premium. The 9mm's are not easy to find. The later Series 80 models in .40 caliber are very hard, if not impossible, to find.

The Colt market can be funny, like any other. In my opinion, this should be a $1,500.00 gun to a collector. Likely sale would be $1,000.00 - $1,200.00.

Colt's, again, can be funny because some of the market will 'sweat' at $1-$1.2K and others wouldn't think anything of it to spend $1.5K.

Reviewing the photo on the one side it seems to be in excellent shape with light handling around the grip. Colt's in my opinion tend to nose dive on price more so with condition. These are my general thoughts, there are obviously exceptions.

Most Colt 1911-A1's were chambered in 45 ACP. 38 Super was second in production numbers, 9x19mm last, so there is not a huge number of 9mm Colt 1911's out there. Without box and docs, I'd say somewhere in the $1200 to $1500 range.

I bought this 9mm about a decade ago at a lGS, $700, and sent it to Cylinder & Slide for a new hammer and other tuning. A really nice, pistol, gave it my daughter in law a few years ago. They are the sweet spot in 1911 handguns. SF VET
