The Product Recall Notice hinted at ammunition being the problem. My understanding is that Federal 357 Magnum ammo is where the problem normally surfaces.
If you read much about revolvers and trigger jobs, you will no doubt read about using Federal primers that are soft and easy to ignite from a revolver with a light hammer fall after a trigger job for reliable ignition.
That soft part is where the problem surfaces as they crater around the firing pin with 357 Magnum ammo on unmodified No dash and dash one guns.
As was said above this problem will probably never show up shooting any 38 ammo ever. It will probably not show up with mid range 357 Magnum ammo. I would skip Federal 357 ammo, or reloads using Federal primers however. For carry ammo I would probably get the old Midway catalog out, and check out all the available 357 ammo. Midway lists the velocity of the loads.
The Remington 125 grain Golden Sabers listed at 1220 fps are what I have in the wifes Home Defense 686.
Fiocchi has a 124 grain Hornady XTP loading at 1250 fps.
Corbon lists two 125 grain loads at 1300 fps.
CCI has a 158 HP rated at 1150 fps.
Buffalo Bore has a 125 HP rated at 1225 fps
I doubt any of these reduced power loads will crater the primers enough to have a problem. I would get a box to burn up at the range before betting ones life on them however.
If you do have any problems, follow the instructions, and box it up and send it in for the Modification.
