The 3.5" 27 is one of the finest proportioned revolvers ever made. It is beautiful in and of its own right. Adding attractive engraving, turns the 3.5" 27 into a work of art. With that in mind, I thought it was time to share this beauty with the Forum. This factory engraved 3.5"er shipped June 17, 1976 to JS Oshman's in Houston TX (the same place that many of my engraved guns were shipped). I believe that the engraving is the work of Tom Freyburger, but I'm still confirming that piece of info...

I would love to see any photos of your favorite 3.5" 27-2.

Thanks for letting me share,

Every time I see a thread with "engraved" in the title I think to myself, I bet Richard has gone and done it again. Between your pinto pre 27s, 44 mags, and now this little jewel, I'm always super jealous of your acquisitions. I don't have a 3.5 inch 27-2 so I'll go ahead and walk back over to the sidelines now. :)

There is a real artistry in the style of the scrolls. The three scrolls on the right side, below the hammer, mimic each other, but are clearly not carbon copies. You see the same thing in the scrolls and F holes of a Guarneri de Gesu violin. He had a "style" but did not let that get in the way of a certain free-wheeling sponteneity in the execution.
The waves on the topstrap are like he said, "and, now for a little fun"!

Very nice!
Jim

With those short barrels, I much prefer a heavier cast bullet vs. a light jacketed bullet. A big boom is much easier on the nerves than an ear-splitting crack.

I think the above 3.5" 27 has a lot in common with this July 1975 engraved 8.375" 29-2 - I'm guessing they were engraved by the same hammer and chisel.:)

29-2:

The above 29 is also not marked by the factory engraver, but I too believe it was engraved by Mr Freyburger.

...I feel lucky just to have a 3 1/2" 27-2, but sadly, no engraving!!

Les:

Engraving or no engraving, I think it is hard to find a more aesthetically pleasing revolver than a 3.5" 27-2. Not only that, but they are great to shoot - accurate, heavy enough to tame the recoil of almost any round you can stuff in them, and still compact enough to tote around on your hip.:D

I'm not much in to engraved guns but every once in a while I come across one that I really like and your's just happens to be one of them.

Very very nice.

I should have my 3.5" .357 Magnum soon.
