I Was at the range today with a few pistols including my SA Emmisary 1911 in 9mm, and 2 very different micro 9's. One is the new metal S&W CSX and the other a Springfield armory XDs mod2 3.3".

The CSX Holds 12+1 and the XDs holds 7+1, both are excellent shooters at 50ft and both are very fun to shoot and are excellent for EDC.

I really like the all metal feel of the CSX in my hands, the larger capacity and 1911 hammer style and safety and it is actually smaller in size than the polymer striker fire XDs.

I have included a pic for comparison, as maybe some of you have been looking at owning the CSX. What are your thoughts ? Have you shot a CSX Yet?

My CSX is an excellent pistol. All it needed was to drift the rear sight slightly right and that was it. I like it better than my Kimber Micro 9…essentially very similar dimensionally outside of the added capacity.

Around the 3rd quarter of this year the CSX finally displaced the Micro .45 1911 (7+1rds) I've carried every day for the past 17 years. It was hard to overlook the 12+1rd capacity in a pistol that was smaller and lighter (even loaded) than my favorite 1911. The change over was pretty easy and the controls were pretty much the same, however the CSX's tigger action is no where near the equivalent of the 1911 but it is usable with practice. To date I have had 1 malfunction (in the first magazine of rounds fired in my first CSX) in close to 1000rds through the 2 CSX's I own and shoot.
They may not be for everyone but they are a comfortable choice to carry every day, all day for close up personal defense, just like it's name sake, the Chief's Special.

Comparing it with...

I like mine a lot too. Great size for a carry pistol.

Plenty strong & seems to handle (+P) handloads well.

Comparing the 3.1" bbl. CSXs velocity to a 3.5" bbl. 3913TSW it lost a little more than I expected but still gets the job done.

Blue Dot, Thanks for posting the Chron. results, At my Fish and Game, there is a gentleman who loads his own rounds and chronographs the results and I have been there at the same time and he's offered to measure some of my S&W's with my ammo for fun.

I purchased an M1 Garand last year and was at the range and he Measured the velocity,,, was neat to verify the power of the 30-06 velocity for real in my SA Correct 1943 GAW George A Woody (2657 fps by the way)

Love those Big Dot sites on your CSX also. Did you mount those yourself? and does the big dot set up snag more with such bigger front site?

Thanks again for posting the velocity info ! 3GF

Thanks, yes I installed them myself. I posted some installation related info in three different posts in this thread on that:
CSX Night Sights

I haven't really noticed that they snag more (though it's likely they will) since I carry it in a holster AIWB mainly.

Here's the full chrono test for the CSX, 9x19, Zero 125gr JHP, P-P@ 6.4 - 7.0gr handload. Be warned, 7.0grs is probably in or near (+P+) territory. ;)

The CSX is on my “see it - buy it” list.

Whoever is buying them must really like them, I haven’t seen a used one yet.

I'm not a fan of the CSX or really any pocket carry sized pistols in general really . My wife has a p365xl with a wilson grip module- 12 and 15 shot mags and I have a hellcat pro comp- 15 and 17 shot mags both as light or lighter empty than the csx .

I rather carry ether over the CSX even if they made one in the same size class. I have tried a csx and just not on my list of guns to own . I have carried a real 1911 a lw commander for 34 years and know well how much lint an exposed hammer fired pistol can gather in a day so the csx holds no interest for as a pocket carry or waist line carry handgun plus its small in my hand .
